Volume up! F’ing rad - I haven’t heard this in decades! The last song I wrote before Oliver Twist ended was Blackout Paradise. For me the song chronicled drinking and partying ‘till blackout as a wayward youth in the palm tree lined streets of LA at night - along with other behavioral and cultural excesses. Wayne, Chad and I were teaching these songs to our last drummer in Feb 1992. We had no vocalist at the time, but we did have a strobe light in our practice garage at Wayne’s parents house. As always we played hard and our chops were pretty damn good at the time. It wasn’t long after this that we hung up our guns as a band. @hammerofthenorth1 @chadrandallcole #olivertwisttheband #1992 #northhollywood #songwriting #rehearsal #garage #rockandroll #electricguitar #marshallamps #pearldrums #fenderbass #carvinguitars #charvelguitars

READ: Yes, I’m a very sentimental and nostalgic person (with stories that have been buried for decades). These recent pics via @heathdamien remind me the only place I ever truly felt like I was doing what I was meant to do. I wasn’t right then, but I most certainly haven’t been right since then. No doubt it was a motivated and challenging time for a group of adolescent lads full of piss and vinegar trying to find our place in the world. We practiced and played hard, each member was talented and good at their parts and worked hard like pros. We were all fighting our own battles all the while - yet remained a strong presence wherever we performed. Our pre-show all-hands-in chant was FUCK SHIT UP!!! I had never seen these pics before, it looks like our first ever show as a band at The Palomino western club (maybe… or FM Station?) made famous in many movies. Also where I stole a case of chocolate slim fast that I lived off while it lasted, put it in the trunk of Chad’s Nova with our gear. We won a band contest that night and took the few bucks we received and went straight to Del Taco for some much needed food. We were seriously down and out financially. I was living in our practice garage under the landing path of the Burbank Airport, writing band songs, pissing in a bucket and literally picking through garbage for pizza crust and cigarette butts to make the nights more passable. My car with my clothes and prized @jasonjessee skateboard in it was also stolen there leaving me extra fucked (I was 100% committed to the effort with my life). This would have been Jan 1991. It was an honor to share the battle with my brothers while it lasted - thanks for the pics, Heath!
