I fell out of love with filmmaking about 8 years ago. I had no heart for it. I was mad at God for giving me this gift. The old Courtney was lost, depressed, unmotivated, fearful, and insecure. Mad for being a visionary. Mad for being gay.😡 I used substances and sex to cope, and for validation😤. I spent a MONTH in a mental health hospital for addiction and because i tried to take myself off earth. I let people use me because they enjoyed my gift, but didnt value.. me. I let myself get in the way of me. I failed at 2 projects, a short film and a reality show.. 😣Then when my mom died 8 days after my 35th birthday, grief took over. I didnt wanna be nothing or do nothing. BUT A DAY CAME within the last year and i finally saw myself, A NEW COURTNEY🤲🏾. I gave up religion, i just wanted God the almighty only. I gave up trying to please people so they’d like me. I gave up on all the things that brought me down. I began to grieve the old me. The sky’s opened up. I accepted that the Courtney that i was with my Ma, i would never meet him again😔. I accepted that i was a recovering addict with over 2 years of sobriety🤩. I gave up perfection. The universe began to conspire on my behalf. I found my love for art again. The universe sent the right people in my life. I learned how to care for myself🧘🏿‍♂️🙏🏿. I had found myself. So as i am 7 days away from my birthday, i honor the old me. I remember him. For if it wasnt for him, i wouldnt be me today. There’s so much in store.
