Is this “tea-stuffed citrus” actually an ancient tradition? 📜🍊

If you guessed yes... you’re only half right!

While stuffing Puerh tea into citrus fruits dates all the way back to the 1800s Qing Dynasty, this specific style—using small, unripe green tangerines (called Xiao Qing Gan)—didn’t actually hit the tea scene until around 2009! 🤯

Today I’m brewing my very first tangerine puerh mini cake from @chafolio and the taste is incredible as the citrus comes more alive after each pour!

Here is what makes this combo so magical:
✨ The Pu-erh comes from the mountains of Yunnan Province.
✨ The green tangerine peel comes from Xinhui, Guangdong (famous for traditional citrus remedies).
✨ In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this unripe green peel is a powerhouse for boosting metabolism, relieving bloating, and clearing out throat congestion.

The thick, earthy puerh perfectly balances the sharp, bright citrus oils. It’s the perfect Monday reset. 😮‍💨🍵

Have you ever tried tea-stuffed citrus before? Let me know in the comments! 👇

🌿 Chafolio’s Jingshan Matcha 🌿

Overall, this matcha was pretty good! It’s my first time trying Chinese matcha as well so it was a pleasant surprise.

As an usucha, it was definitely a bit bitter but as a latte, it was pretty good, creamy, nutty, balanced!

(My first voice over 🥹)

Nothing is more refreshing on a HOT summer day…
Oops. It’s October…
that’s Fall Sara. 😂

Right.
Well, it feels like Summer outside still. LOL.

So I made this delicious mocktail/refresher.

HOW TO MAKE IT:

Brewed some jasmine green tea*

After it steeps a few mins, add a little honey to the tea (approx 1 tsp.)

Add the following to a glass (I didn’t measure any of this, just eyeball it):
✨Ice
✨3-4 oz of Paloma Aqua Kefir (or your fav kombucha or kefir water)
✨3-4 oz of green tea
✨A rosemary or mint sprig
✨Optional - a squeeze of fresh citrus
✨If you want it fizzier, add a lil sparking water.

*note: if you can find it - loose leaf tea is the BEST. I love jasmine tea, it is green tea but has a beautiful floral bouquet. So great in mocktails.
I bought this jasmine tea at a farmers market and it is AMAZING. If you want to get it - comment “TEA” and I’ll send you a coupon for $15 off your order!

I found this Paloma aqua kefir at Trader Joe’s. It’s delish. Kefir water is a delicious probiotic fizzy beverage. I used to make it at home, I might have to get back into it.

Lmk if you try it!! Great for those of you doing Sober October. Or anyone that just enjoys delicious stuff. 🤗

Enjoy!!
