This summer looked different.

For the first time in several years, I did not spend my summer in an office or working in policy. Instead, I went to camp.

It was different from anything I had done before, but the Lord kept teaching me the same truth in a hundred different ways: I was never meant to do any of this apart from Him.

He met me in the dish pit and showed me that even the most ordinary work can become worship. He met me in a cabin full of boys and exposed how quickly I look to people for the approval only He can give. He met me in my weakness and reminded me that dependence is not a failure of the Christian life. Dependence is the Christian life.

He reminded me that before I am useful, impressive, successful, liked, or needed, I am already chosen, freed, forgiven, and deeply loved. He gave me friends who did not just know what I was doing, but cared about how I was doing. He taught me to slow down long enough to notice His goodness in sunsets, conversations, laughter, hard days, and even a blue heron named Harold.

Camp did not make me stronger because I finally learned how to hold everything together. It made me stronger because, over and over again, the Lord showed me that I do not have to.

I am not the vine. I am a branch.

What a gift it was to spend a summer learning to abide, serve, depend, and worship.

to Vertical, the ministry that truly changed my life.

from the first night of freshman year walking into Vertical, my life changed. the Lord has placed mentors in my life that i will forever be grateful for and people who have helped me grow in my faith and as a person. @anna_webb49 and @mylesolenski have been such an inspiration to me through the way they lead, love people, and faithfully live for Jesus. through this ministry, i found life long friendships and spiritual brothers and sisters who encourage and grow me daily. Vertical made my freshman year better than i ever could’ve imagined.

To the ministry and people that have changed my life….

Vertical is a ministry that continues to amaze me every single day. Coming into college, one of my biggest fears was not finding a spiritual family like the one I had back home but Vertical quickly became that and so much more.

From the very first Monday night, I encountered the Lord through volunteers who cared more about my heart than my attendance. The intentionality and love behind this ministry truly reflects what Christ designed fellowship to look like.

I’m so beyond grateful for the vision that @mylesolenski and @anna_webb49 have poured into this place. Their leadership is truly what brings the passion to Vertical.

Getting to serve alongside so many volunteers who are after the Lord’s heart and the hearts of college students has completely changed the way I walk with Him. I’m constantly encouraged and inspired by @_alliesparks and @jakeljohnson_ the way they steward their gifts both musically and in leadership is such a blessing, and I’m so thankful to get to learn from them and this team.
