This progression moves from strength → control → power → sport‑specific landings. Following ACLR training extreme eccentric and concentric quad control is important for generating force, and maintaining stability. Basketball is a game that is both predictable and widely unpredictable. With this, training in unstable positions is what builds confidence for performing in stable positions. These exercises work to rebuild a knee that is ready for every takeoff, cut, and finish at game speed.

Static → controlled → explosive → sport‑specific.

Following this progression allows one to build high velocity concentric and eccentric quadriceps strength–which is necessary when rebuilding a tendon. This is essential for addressing patellar tendinopathy, specific to basketball players. When rehabilitating a tendon, it is important to develop anatomy that can handle high-volume jumping, hard landings, and game speed-transitions without symptoms.

Use this progression protocol to get you back on the court sooner, rather than later!

📚 Learning Never Stops at MMA & Sports Rehab!
Our commitment to lifelong learning and evidence-based care continues through our Monthly Clinical Skills Lab, where clinicians and DPT students come together to share knowledge and improve patient care.
This month, our outstanding DPT interns from Marymount University delivered two excellent presentations:
🔹 JT Murphy presented the MSR Clinical Resource Library, a comprehensive resource featuring post-operative rehabilitation protocols, return-to-sport guidelines, injection therapy considerations, clinical communication strategies, and an extensive exercise bank designed to support both clinicians and students.
🔹 Chandler Eddleton presented on Sport-Specific Rehabilitation for Basketball Injuries, breaking down common injury patterns, rehabilitation progressions, return-to-play considerations, and practical treatment strategies that can be implemented immediately in the clinic.
Both presentations were well researched, clinically relevant, and full of practical pearls that will continue to improve the quality of care we provide to our patients every day.
A huge thank you to JT and Chandler for their hard work, professionalism, and passion for learning. We are proud to have been part of your clinical journey and wish you both continued success as you grow into exceptional physical therapists!

Learning from the Best! 👏
We had the pleasure of welcoming spine surgeon Dr. Samuel Li from Nirschl Orthopaedic Center to both our Walter Reed and Edgewood clinics today.
Dr. Li spent time meeting our physical therapists and DPT students, sharing valuable insights into the latest spine procedures, surgical decision-making, and evidence-based postoperative rehabilitation. We had an outstanding discussion on how surgeons and physical therapists can work together to optimize patient outcomes, with a strong emphasis on current research and best clinical practices.
What made the visit even better was Dr. Li’s approachable personality. He was incredibly generous with his time, welcomed every question from our team, and encouraged open discussion and clinical curiosity. It’s always inspiring to learn from specialists who are passionate about education and collaboration.
Outside of the operating room, we also discovered that he’s an avid tennis and golf player! Growing up in Maryland and serving patients throughout the DMV, Dr. Li truly understands our local community.
A huge thank you, Dr. Li, for investing in our team’s education and helping us continue to provide the highest level of care for our patients. We look forward to building a strong collaborative relationship for years to come!

Today, our team gathered for another outstanding MSR Monthly Clinical Skills Lab, led by Dr. Peter Zatezalo. These sessions are an important part of our commitment to continuous learning, professional growth, and delivering the highest quality care to our patients.
During today's lab, Dr. Peter facilitated a collaborative discussion on posture assessment, movement screening strategies, clinical reasoning, and various treatment approaches that can help us better identify movement dysfunctions and optimize patient outcomes. The session encouraged open dialogue, critical thinking, and the exchange of new ideas among clinicians.
We were also excited to have our fellow physical therapists and Doctor of Physical Therapy students from Marymount University join us. Clinical education has always been a cornerstone of MSR, and opportunities like these allow us to learn from one another while helping develop the next generation of healthcare professionals.
At MSR Physical Therapy, we believe that great clinicians never stop learning. By continuously refining our skills, sharing evidence-based practices, and challenging our clinical thinking, we ensure that our patients receive the exceptional care they deserve.
Thank you, Dr. Peter, for leading an engaging and educational session!
