⚽ Why Is a Multi-Sport Session is So Important During the Football Off-Season?

The off-season isn’t about taking a break from developing—it’s about building the athletic foundations that great footballers rely on all year round.

At Ballers FA, every Monday night is dedicated to a multi-sport athletic development session in the gym, where players improve coordination, strength, balance, speed and movement quality—all while working with the ball.

Why? Because the best footballers aren’t just technically gifted. They’re complete athletes.

Research consistently shows that young athletes who participate in a variety of movement-based activities develop:
✅ Better coordination and body control
✅ Greater agility and acceleration
✅ Improved balance and injury resilience
✅ Faster decision-making through varied movement challenges
✅ More confidence in unpredictable game situations

Rather than specialising too early, our players develop transferable athletic qualities that directly improve their football performance.

Our Off-Season Training Program combines:
⚽ Monday: Multi-sport athletic development, strength, speed, balance and coordination.
⚽ Wednesday: Football-specific technical and tactical training at Poulton Park.
⚽ Saturday: Match play and football sessions, transitioning into the Sydney Super League during October and finishing in December.

Every player also receives:
👕 Full playing kit
📒 Training diary
🧘 Stretching diary
🩺 Physiotherapy screening by The Corner Physio
📊 Athletic testing through ACPE University

Train smarter. Play faster. Think first.

This isn’t just about preparing for next season—it’s about developing better athletes and better footballers for the future.

ROUND 15 - BANKSTOWN CITY LIONS FC VS. SYDNEY OLYMPIC FC ⚽️

Sunday’s match showed clear growth from last week.

After conceding an extremely early goal, the team was immediately put under pressure and forced to respond rather than settle into the game. Instead of dropping heads, the girls showed real fight and worked their way back into the contest, managing to level the score by halftime. That response alone is a strong sign of development compared to previous weeks.

In the second half, the game became more challenging against a physical Sydney Olympic side. We struggled at times to maintain structure and composure without the ball, which led to conceding two goals in a difficult period. Despite that, the effort levels did not drop, and the team continued to push until the final whistle.

A positive moment was scoring right at the end of the match, which reflected the team’s persistence and willingness to keep playing football even when the result was decided. The game ended as 3-2.

The girls were extremely heartbroken as they truly wanted this win! The disappointment shows just how invested they are becoming in their football.

ROUND 9 - BANKSTOWN CITY LIONS FC VS. HILLS UNITED FC ⚽️

Mother’s Day 🌸
Female Football Week 💜
7-0 WIN! 🔥

There is not much to say about last week’s game but how special it was to celebrate our beautiful mums, how incredible it is to watch females grow in football and of course, a 7-0 win to top it all off. 🙌🏾

The teamwork.
The support from every player.
The celebrations as a team after every goal.

I say it every week.
I’m super proud of this group of girls right here and I couldn’t be happier to be their coach! 🥰

ROUND 8 - BANKSTOWN CITY LIONS FC VS. MARCONI STALLIONS FC ⚽️

Whaaaaat a gameeeee!!! 👊🏾
Proud coach moment. 🥹

A 2–1 win in what was an absolutely fantastic game.

Over the last few weeks, we have been working on our “out-of-possession” techniques.

Before kickoff, I gave them three simple goals:
1. When we lose the ball: we put pressure, shut it down, and win it back as quickly as possible.
2. When defending: no bunching, just smart delay and cover with no more than two players on the ball and;
3. When we do have possession — trust yourselves and use the space.
And they delivered on every single one. 💪🏾

The effort, the awareness, the teamwork…
It all came together. Watching them support each other, stay disciplined, and play with confidence was something special. You could really see their growth out there.

So proud of this team and how hard they’re working for each other.

This is what progress looks like! 🙌🏾

ROUND 7 - BANKSTOWN CITY LIONS FC VS. SUTHERLAND STRIKERS ⚽️

Not much to say about this week’s game except for how proud I am of these girls for putting up a fight.

With illness hitting the squad and only one player on the bench, the effort was always going to matter more than the result. 💪🏾

We started strong with an early goal to take the lead, but as the game wore on and fatigue set in, the other team found a few gaps and took advantage in the second half. The girls still fought right to the end and grabbed a late goal to finish the match 4–2.

Proud of the effort from start to finish - they never stopped working for each other. ✨

✨ Big night for our Ballers! ✨

Tomorrow our BFA boys and girls step onto the stage at the Sydney Football Cup, but tonight is all about the jersey presentation dinner 🍽️⚽️

There’s something special about receiving your playing kit the night before a big tournament – it’s more than just a jersey, it’s a symbol of the hard work, training, and belief that’s gone into preparing for this moment.

You could feel the buzz in the room as each player pulled on their kit for the very first time – eyes lit up, smiles all around, and a real sense of pride to represent Ballers Football Academy. 💖🖤⚪️

The tournament starts tomorrow, but the journey and memories have already begun tonight.

Sydney Football Cup – we’re ready👊🏼👊🏼

Let’s go Ballers! ⚽️💪
