We’re kicking off @southboundfoodfest a little early by investing in the future of food & beverage👩‍🍳

This morning, a few of our Dames joined students for Future Culibarians Day, an inspiring morning designed to introduce the next generation to careers in the culinary world. Students heard from Chef @roscoe__hall about his story & journey in the industry, enjoyed a chef demonstration & got the chance to learn from leaders who are helping shape the future of food.

A special thank you to Dame @victoriarvr for joining a panel coordinated by Dame @when_life_gives_you_lemelins & to Dame @chandatemple for being there to support this incredible program.

We’re proud to be part of creating opportunities, sharing stories & inspiring the next generation of culinary leaders.

We are excited to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month and look forward to connecting with you on May 8th at the City of Birmingham Mental Health Day from 10 am-2:00 pm!
This year’s theme, “Caring and Sharing: A Resilient Birmingham Breaking Mental Health Stigma,” reminds us of the power of community, compassion, and open conversation.
We encourage you to take a moment to review the facts being shared, engage in meaningful and supportive discussions about mental health, and most importantly—check in on those around you.
Together, we can break the stigma and build a stronger, more resilient Birmingham. 💚 #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #breakthestigma #birminghamal #nurtureofalabama

Mental health matters because it shapes how we think, feel, and show up in our daily lives. It impacts our relationships, our work, and our ability to cope with stress and challenges. When we prioritize our mental well-being, we build stronger families, healthier communities, and a better future for everyone.

Join us for the City of Birmingham Mental Health Day on May 8, 2026 as we come together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and connect our community to valuable resources and support.

This is more than an event—it’s a movement toward healing, hope, and wholeness. Sharing is Caring: A Resilient Birmingham Breaking Mental Health Stigma.

Be a part of the change. Your mental health matters. 💚

For our 20th wedding anniversary, Edward and I could have taken a trip to our favorite beach or to a foreign land, but instead we chose to celebrate the day with dozens of our closest friends. Why? Because they’re part of our love story too.

Twenty years ago, in Louisville, Kentucky, we had an EPIC wedding reception that folks talked about for two decades. For real. So this weekend we partied like it was 2006 (though my knees reminded me it certainly was not).

Whenever I would take a break from dancing to catch my breath, I found myself feeling a bit emotional — overwhelmed with gratitude for all the love in the room.

We had friends travel from across the country to celebrate with us — Atlanta, Nashville, Louisville, Cincinnati, New York, California, Seattle. In fact, all six of my bridesmaids were there! (Swipe to the end to see a photo of us 20 years ago.)

The family members and friends who make me proud to call Birmingham home were in the room, too. And of course, the ladies of See Jane Write came to represent!

My friends are THE BEST and I’m so grateful to y’all for being there for every plot twist for being part of our happily ever after.

Prepare to be sick of me because this is just round one of photos!

And let me do some shoutouts:
@shapelylouise for designing my beautiful dress
@avenuedbham for the perfect venue
@shinebycharlene for exquisite decor
@kecaulfield for delicious food
@1djnol for keeping the dance floor on fire
@slimrobb for the photo booth that everyone LOVED
@musicallyspeakingsouth for the photos I’m about to spam your timeline with

Community over Competition— I don’t just preach this; I practice it. That’s why @seejanewriteco exists. And that’s why I had such a wonderful time having lunch with fellow women writers today to discuss pitching, the freelance life, our Thanksgiving plans and so much more. Writers, we are better together!
