‘Ngā Ringa Whetū’ is an exhibition that embodies the interwoven knowledge of whatu and raranga (Māori weaving techniques) and illuminates the interconnectedness of people and Te Ao Māori. Showcasing works by Ngā Toi Taketake tauira (students) from the Elam School of Fine Arts Te Waka Tūhura, the exhibition presents a constellation of small, intricately adorned pieces alongside expansive installations produced collaboratively.

On view at @te_uru_gallery from July 5 to September 7.

Join @arapeta__, @yhua254, and me for a weaving workshop on Saturday August 30.

We joined @elamartists Elam School of Fine Arts’ students as they harvested harakeke in Week 1! 🌾🌿

Students are guided by Chanel and Arapeta in the correct ways to harvest to ensure the plants, which are grown at Elam, can provide for future students.

Fun fact: the sap found inside the base of the leaf can be used as a natural remedy for cuts or small wounds! 🩹

Artist Q+A with Olivia Asher, facilitated by Chanel Duff!

Come along to Projectspace at 12pm on Monday May 20th to hear about Olivia’s practice, and what she’s been getting up to since graduating from Elam last year!🌟

Olivia Asher (Ngāti Tūwharetoa) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau. She explores the exchange between her Māori and Pākehā identity, navigating the complexities of oscillating between the two cultures; and the interplay between intention and intuition, emphasising experimentation and spontaneity through the materiality of her work.

◆ EXHIBITION ◆

This week in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, visit a special exhibition currently showing with @TeWakaTuhuraGalleries at the George Fraser Gallery and Projectspace Gallery.

‘End-to-End Part 1’ is an exchange project between current & recent staff and Post Graduate students from @SCA_Sydney, The University of Sydney, and Te Waka Tūhura, Elam School of Fine Arts and Design, Waipapa Taumata Rau, @UniversityofAuckland. The exchange is facilitated by Alex Gawronski (SCA), Sean Kerr and James Cousins (ELAM).

“'End-to-End' is not in any way ‘about’ the role of institutional pedagogy. If anything, the exhibition is about the questions and experiences elicited by the works themselves acting within the institution, but more importantly outside it and within the wiser world. - Alex Gawronski, August, 2023

Learn more and plan a visit until this Friday 8 September through the link in bio.
