Who among you has perhaps already seen such a stone object from Grassland ???

It is impossible to determine with certainty the ethnic group that sculpted this mysterious & intriguing figurine - Perhaps the Bamoun or the Bamilélé? - But regardless of its specific Grassland origins it is certainly a rare object, perhaps unique in its kind - And for sure it was tribally utilized for a very very long time, as evidenced by its many signs of use & breackages, and above all from its incredibile patina !!!

Fon

Exceptional zoomorphic figurine of unknown function depicting a monkey

It is really impossible to state with absolute certainty the function of this bronze - After my many researches I could suppose it was used for divination purposes on a family altar - But this is only my humble idea although it is supported by some big experts of the divination objects of the Fon groups

Please note the amazing patina & the many signs of use of this casting : these are the undoubted proof of the great age of this small monkey

Kotoko Putchu Guinadji (PLP-KOT-323)

It is an object not very old but in my opinion very important and interesting because it testifies the continuation of the old tradition of these talismans against possession & madness - I bartered this object in a village Kotoko giving in change some bottles of Coca-Cola and a my old hunting hat - The owner was a old woman who wore it - She was happy to trade it with my things because she owned an older & more powerful one - And she went to pick up and showed me her oldest talisman - A very old & beautiful object but impossible to buy or exchange for superstitious reasons of the owner - It is really interesting to see that in Africa there are still old traditions that are continuously passed on from generation to generation

Item collected by me in North Cameroon

Metal alloy for the equestrian figurine totally covered in a leather casing - Necklace with small colored balls & cowries & other ornaments - Ropes - Fabric threads - Various pieces of leather

4,8 cm (H of the covered equestrian)
4,4 cm (L of the covered equestrian)
