OMG, @inkittcandyjar YOU ARE THE BEST

This show is pure comfort for Latinos hahaha. The way I LOVED THE SPANGLISH?!?

It’s true that Latinos from the south don’t really speak Spanglish, but the warm culture and all those little family gestures and dynamics are clearly the same and unite us… and don’t even get me started on: THE EMPANADAS.

Don’t Say Te Amo has EVERYTHING: drama, family moments, comedy, and even TELENOVELAS (the funny references made me laugh so much because I grew up with them and hold them very dear).

This is the first time I’ve seen @chantigroves as a lead, and I have to say I NEED TO SEE HER MORE in other shows. Her performance as Mia really touches your heart. Watching her play a girl who’s in love with the idea of love and wants to experience those feelings for the first time was lovely, and I feel like younger girls can really relate to her. Also, another highlight is that she made me laugh a lot in the daydreaming scenes hahaha.

I’ve seen @benubinas before, I love his work and the way he adapts to every story. I’m impressed because this week I saw him as a manipulative villain, and here his character, Alex, is a sweet though complicated guy who’s fighting what he feels for his best friend’s little sister. By the way, I loved that they had him commenting on the telenovelas with Mia, because of course guys watch them too! (I remember watching Betty la Fea and El Clon with my mom and dad 🤣)

Applause also for @officialnicosierra as Mia’s older brother. Even though he had his overprotective/troglodyte moments with her, he’s a good brother and he loves her.

@lonnypresman did a great job as Danny, and this villain role worked really well to contrast with Alex, as well as to show once again that “appearances can be deceiving” and “you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover”.

@itsrociolopez and @lucien2050 were really sweet and warm as the parents. I liked that Lourdes and Sebastián were so present and that they welcomed Alex into their family like another son.

Also, @reza.jacqueline , who played Mia’s best friend. It was such a good choice that they didn’t make her annoying.

Sometimes the biggest grand gesture isn't a dramatic declaration... it's finding a place where you feel like you belong.

Don't Say Te Amo gave me butterflies, made me laugh with its telenovela daydreams, and had me craving empanadas by the end. Between the family dinners, bilingual banter, and the sweet slow-burn chemistry between Chantal Groves and Ben Ubiñas, this one completely won me over.

If you're a sucker for the brother's best friend trope with a whole lot of heart and culture, don't skip this one.

I directed the Latinx romance microdrama, “Don’t Say Te Amo” for CandyJar, Inkitt’s vertical platform, marking their first project developed specifically for the Latinx market.

Going into this, I knew the format would ask something different of me. Ten pages a day, every day. Holding performance and coverage at that pace was such a learning curve, and honestly, a welcome one. It forced a different precision and attention on set.

This cast brought truth to every scene, and this crew moved fast without ever losing the joy of telling stories. That combination is rare, and I don’t take it for granted.
Proud of what we made together. It’s live now on the CandyJar platform.

For the culture, you’re scrolling through and suddenly you’re in a telenovela.

Our telenovela dreamer returns home from a trip with newfound confidence, only to pine for the one guy who’s off-limits: her brother’s brooding best friend, Alex. Stolen kisses, secret arrangements, and a glow-up spiral into heartbreak before Mr. Best Friend finally admits the truth he’s been hiding all along. You blink. You rewind. You ask yourself, Is this a soap opera but make it vertical? Did Not Finish? Did Need Finishing? That’s right. It’s our next DNF.

Welcome to Talk Drama to Me, where we dive headfirst into the wild, wacky, and what-did-we-just-watch world of vertical dramas. In this episode, Ji and Tiffany tackle Candy Jar’s ‘Don’t Say Te Amo’. OR! ‘Loving My Brother’s Best Friend’ but make it telenovela. Same story, different font.

Meet Mia, the telenovela dreamer who’s suddenly the hottest girl in school. Her brother’s best friend, Alex, is toxic, brooding, and impossibly hot. The wind machines, dramatic confessions, and inches-apart tension are all there.

This summer, tune in every Friday for more drama, more laughs, and more DNF-worthy content.

Even though I said it was missing that extra spark, I still genuinely enjoyed it. The cast was fantastic, and every time Alex and Mia shared a romantic scene, I got all the warm, fuzzy feelings. I just found myself wishing there had been a little more conflict and a stronger emotional payoff before the ending.
