I once shot a quiet wish into the universe.
Somehow it returned to me
as a constellation of women
who held me through my becoming. ✨

Seems like I botched the last slide so here it is…

I stared at the pair on the floor.

“So,” I said slowly, “it’s not just one pair.”

“Correct.”

“Definitely not,” the first voice added cheerfully, sounding far too happy about it.

Something about that didn’t feel fair.

“We learned about this in school,” I said, mostly to myself. Saying it out loud helped me think. “Walking in other people’s shoes.”

Both voices went quiet.

“What’s it called again?” I asked.

I snapped my fingers.
“Ah yes. Empathy.”

A beat passed.

“See?” the first voice said smugly. “He does pay attention in class.”

The second voice sighed. “Sometimes.”

I looked down at the shoes.

They were still there.

Waiting.

…

Somewhere while writing Chapter 3, I realised this story could be so much bigger than I had planned.

And that’s the dangerous part of long-form fiction — you fall in love with its potential.
You go back. You rewrite. You doubt. You rewrite again.

As a poet, I’m used to intensity in small spaces.
This? This is expansive. Liberating. Frustrating. Endless.

But the worlds it opens up inside you…

What’s life without a little magic anyway?
Being grounded in reality is overrated.

This is for you if you’re feeling homesick. 💌

Sometimes, home isn’t about a place—it’s about the ache of disconnection. If you’re carrying that longing today, know that you are not alone.

We’ve gathered poetry and artwork from incredible BIPOC artists to create a comforting space where memory and belonging meet. Think of this as a visual and written hug, reminding you that home is a feeling you carry with you, always.

What does home mean to you? Share them in the comments below. 🏡✨

Slide for Poem.

Feeling accomplished today, not because of anything I did, but because of what my children created. My daughter @ivanagossain’s artwork shines in her first book “The Subtext”, my 10-year-old son wrote and sang his first song about giving hope, and I added a poem to the mix, in the spirit of reminding us that there is a place for everyone in this world and it’s okay to be just as you are.

Madness is daring to dream of a world different from the one that exists, and maybe that’s what art really is. A kind of madness that carries hope, meaning, and humanity forward.

I once thought legacy was something I had to build alone, but now I know, it doesn’t get better than teaching another little human to keep their humanity alive through art. ❤️

And in that moment, I thought to myself: the world will know these children are mine. How is that for a legacy?

In their own ways, and with age-appropriate innocence, they have both stripped humanity down to its bare bones. What more could I possibly ask for?

I will always be more because of them.

Artist credit goes to my very own @ivanagossain

Becoming isn’t beautiful. It’s messy, quiet, and full of letting go. You lose people. Versions of yourself. Illusions. You walk the line between grief and growth, between holding on and healing. And some days, it feels like falling, not flying, but still, you go on.

Slide for poem.

Also my next tattoo?

In all honesty I don’t even have my book yet because the author copies seem to be taking longer! But they do. And can I take a moment to tell you they’re way more excited than I am. Taking a moment to celebrate @chaosinline Sadgi, both one of my best friends and designer who was also the first person to receive the book, make a reel and send it to me and @sutra_himani who’s literally pushing everyone in the yoga studio to get the book even if they don’t want it 🤣. I feel sorry for you but can’t say I don’t love the love. Thank you all for supporting me. It was hard to put out a noncontroversial poetry book that wouldn’t subject me to judgement and I promise you the next one will be every bit as spicy as me. I’ve thrown in a few bones for effect. A heartfelt thank you to those who have waited for this longer than I have and hurried me along. I love you. I have no words for this kind of support. And let me not forget @labwritesla Laura who made this happen because she believed in me and is the brilliant editor of this poetry book. (Only makes it better! 😜) and Jacquie @jacquelinesimongunn for supporting me with a review worthy of queens. Damn! I don’t know how to express my gratitude. Just so you know while I wrote this book because my father’s death spurred me to, I stayed the course because of this community. I don’t even know how to begin to thank you all. ♥️🫂

These poems came from the mess, the magic, the stillness, and the storms.
They’re not just words. They’re a map back to myself.

My poetry book is here!
Grateful, nervous, proud and finally ready to share it with you. ❤️
