“The revolution has always been in the hands of the young. The young always inherit the revolution.” - Dr. Huey P. Newton

As we celebrate 60 years of the Black Panthers, it is more important than ever to pass on the legacy, strategy, and community-care models of the Party to a new generation.

That’s why we’re bringing in 1,000 high school students into the convening, to participate and provide their insight in a constantly changing world.

This means:
✊🏾 Removing financial barriers
✊🏾 Full access to all panels, workshops, and political education sessions.
✊🏾 Passing the torch directly: Building connections across generations with elders, organizers, and each other.

The revolution doesn’t end with us. It continues with them.

Submit the form on our website to request access.

Shreya Shankar’s practice is where ancestral forms and futurisms meet across the mediums of design, organizing, policy, worldbuilding, place-keeping, myth-making and meaning-making.
Their work engages collective memory, place, and the radical imagination, prototyping across systems and forms.

They have degrees in Environmental Policy, Urban Planning, and Architecture from UC Berkeley and CCA. Informed by spiritual ecology, folklore, and foresight, Shreya Shankar’s practice explores the space between ancestral cosmologies and liberatory near-futures.

Ecology Center’s poet in residence Gabriel Cortez’s “Student Movement Abecedarian” recaptures the fierce spirit of student activism, including from the 1964–65 Free Speech Movement at UC Berkeley. If you were there, it’s etched into your memory. If you weren’t, it’s still part of your DNA.

This month, students head back to campus, where from the Mario Savio Steps at UC Berkeley to the Freedom Riders Monument at Tennessee State University, we are reminded of the vital contribution of student activists to justice and equity.

In Fall 2023, an intergenerational cohort of twenty Bay Area poets gathered for a six week writing workshop intensive led by the Ecology Center’s (@ecology.center) inaugural poet in residence, Gabriel Cortez (@gabrielmcortez), to create new original poems uplifting environmental justice, food sovereignty, land sovereignty, and local lineages of resistance. Select poems were toured throughout Berkeley schools, farmers markets, book fairs, and more. A handful of poems by CieraJevae (@ms.missing_my_bed), Erzsabet Gonzalez (@erzsa.g), Maya Zeff (@eco.poetry), Zara Jamshed (@zeejamz) were turned into short films to be shared online.
