Trial Reels are a testing ground and please understand that the displayed results are after A LOT of trial and error 🖤

Here's how I've been using them:

1. A/B Test Hooks & Openers: I post 2 to 3 variations of the same video while changing only a single element, such as the opening hook text, audio, or visual angle throughout the day.

2. Target Non-Followers: I try to design my message for people who have zero context about who I am or what I do, but mostly I just have fun with it!

3. Promote Top Performers: I wait 24 to 48 hours to check metrics like watch time, shares, and conversion. If a trial performs well, I share it to everyone or keep it in trials to keep growing but remake it for the main feed.

4. Repurpose Past Content: I re-upload older top-performing Reels as trial reels to extend their lifespan and tap into brand-new non-follower pools.

NOTE! Avoid Duplicate Penalties: Do not re-upload the exact same video file without modifications, as duplicate uploads can get filtered or limited after the first run and effect engagement.

Here for all your social media (marketing) questions 🖤

If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably remember this novella. If you’ve followed me more recently you probably have no idea what I’m talking about 😂

This was the first story I introduced when I started this account, but between WOTJ, life, and a hundred other things happening at once, I haven’t talked about it nearly as much as I used to.

So I figured it was time for a proper reintroduction. At it’s center the story is: grief, memory, identity, and the terrifying things we might do when letting go feels impossible.

For everyone who’s been here since the beginning: thank you for still caring about this little story, and for everyone new: Hi! This one’s been here waiting for you.

More soon! 🖤

What theme will make you immediately want to read a dark fantasy story?

Hi, i’m J.Q. Crawford a dark fiction writer living in Japan, usually writing morally complicated characters, slightly haunted stories, and whatever idea refuses to leave me alone. Currently writing Waltz of the Jaded, a dark urban fantasy serial set in cyberpunkish Tokyo on @chapterloom 🖤

Unfortunately, all of this made its way into my story 😜

WALTZ OF THE JADED

Cyberpunkish Tokyo | Dark urban fantasy | Morally gray characters | Dangerous intimacy

Serializing now on Chapterloom 🌙🖤

I've been rethinking where the line is between being a reader and being part of the author space.

Authors, do you still review other authors’ books?

Has becoming an author changed how honest, critical, or generous you are with reviews?

Genuinely curious how everyone navigates this.

Sometimes “making progress” looks like finishing a chapter, writing 100 words, figuring out one scene, changing your mind, or just coming back to the story after a hard week.

You’re allowed to move slowly, to change direction, and take your time 🖤

What does progress look like for you right now?
