Here are some clips of Maine Fitness Member Charlotte.

After being involved in a terrible car accident in January, Charlotte has shown incredible strength and tenacity, coming to the gym almost every day, putting in effort and consistency in her rehabilitation.

Working as an exercise physiotherapist, Charlotte has formulated her own rehabilitation program which I was able to get some clips of this week.

Y𝗢𝗨𝗥 F𝗢𝗢𝗧 C𝗢𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 C𝗔𝗡 H𝗘𝗟𝗣 A𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗧𝗘 Y𝗢𝗨𝗥 G𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗦! “M𝗬 G𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗦 D𝗢𝗡’𝗧 A𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗧𝗘...”

My client here Rich had a old foot injury on his right foot.

This in return caused his foot to have pain, knee to have pain and no awareness of activation of his lower leg muscles.

One of the things I noticed was that his feet didn’t move well and as a result he could never activate his glute muscles when playing basketball.

However most people will just try to strengthen the Glute muscle in isolation and never actually look at the foot and how it relates to activating the glute.

In a nutshell, in order for your glute to activate from your foot, your foot needs to flatten, the knee needs to bend forward and your hips need to go over the foot.

In addition, when your rib cage and pelvis don’t move well, that usually would interfere with the foots ability to activate glute and lower leg muscles.

When the foot moves well and the pelvis moves well together, what Rich should feel is his calf muscle activating, his hamstring activation and then eventually has glute activating.

All in that order!

He can only get his calf in a little bit of his hamstring to activate.

My point is that you should be able to sense/have feedback to your muscles activating without a band or any type of weights.

Listen to how Rich starts to feel his hamstring activating when he walks after doing this drill.

When he gets his glute to activate during this drill then he will feel his glutes when he walks which means he will feel his glutes when he plays basketball and lift any weights.

I hear people say all the time I never feel my glutes, well did you ever check your foot coordination?!

Online Course Announcement #Evaluation and treatment of individuals with patellofemoral and iliotibial band pain”
Presenter: Richard Willy, PT, PhD
Course Description
This course is a one-day (8-hour) course that emphasizes putting the latest evidence into practice to provide innovative solutions for the individual with patellofemoral pain or iliotibial band pain. The course is led by Richard Willy, PT, PhD, a recognized expert in and knee injuries with particular expertise in running-related injuries. Besides publishing over 50 peer-reviewed papers, he is the lead author on the recent Patellofemoral Pain Clinical Practice Guideline published in the September 2019 issue of Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy.
Attendees will leave with practical skills that will enable them to fully assess overuse injuries to the patellofemoral joint and iliotibial band and design a comprehensive training approach to maximize patient outcomes. Attendees will learn techniques that readily translate to the clinic, including: 1) Clinical reasoning and examination techniques for the knee; 2) Specific strength and conditioning practices to treat athletes with patellofemoral pain and iliotibial band pain; 3) Return to run programs are presented for these specific running injuries; and, 4) Attendees will learn when and how to implement gait retraining in a patient’s rehabilitation program, including how to use simple wearable devices to assist with optimizing patient outcomes. #kneepain
