“What would happen if you put your hearts where your fake allyship is?”

Zelda Southport with possibly my favourite line of Ted Lasso so far.

But episode four also made me think about something I probably don’t talk about enough: how much friendship makes women’s football a better place to work.

This industry can be hard. There’s not enough money, not enough resource and far too much pressure on women’s teams to constantly prove their value.

But there’s also this brilliant network of women who recommend each other, introduce each other, share contacts, send the “have you seen this?” Whatsapps , celebrate each other’s wins and occasionally provide the emergency voice note when everything has gone completely wrong.

Some of the best friends I’ve made as an adult have come through women’s football.

And I don’t think that’s incidental to the growth of the game. I think it’s part of what makes it special.

We talk a lot about investing money into women’s football - rightly.

But there’s another kind of investment happening all the time: women putting their hearts where their allyship is.

Take away the default male bias around football by naming the World Cup as the Men’s.
Ask journalists you know to refer to it this way. Just casually. Especially in the States.
Easy, fun, and shifts perspective…

This on The Dream Teams Podcast we’re joined by @char_moves - Charlotte Thomson, founder of the 110 Collective ✨

Charlotte has built her career with one clear purpose, growing women’s football. Most recently she was head of women’s football at Copa 90, and now she’s gone out on her own to connect brands and businesses with the people driving women’s football forward ⚽

Her passion and energy for women’s football are genuinely infectious and we loved having an honest chat about the cringy bits of being a solo founder, why friendship is central to exercise, and how women’s sport is beautifully collaborative.

Her dream team had some big hitters on it including @helenfootball, @stefmic and @karendobres 🩷💚🪩

Tune in on Spotify or Apple Podcasts 🎙️

Gals FC, the friendliest way to play football and meet new people 💪💚🤠 We are a women’s recreational football club that believes the best way to get more gals playing football is to forget the score.

We play to build community, not to compete. It’s all about fun, friendship, confidence, and feeling a part of something bigger.

We went to the London offices of Sid Lee Sport to host Cause and Effect: Why sponsorship needs an effectiveness revolution.

A live recording featuring industry professionals from across the sport sponsorship marketplace, who came together in front of an invited VIP audience to ask some big questions as sport’s role as a marketing platform for brands.

Taking part were:

Hosting the event was Charlotte Thomson, founder of The One10 Collective and formerly head of women’s football at Copa90.

Joining Charlotte on stage were Charlie Dundas (GSIQ), Rebecca Martin (Barclays/ESA), and Rory Natkiel (Sid Lee Sport) as founding board members of the Sponsorship Effectiveness Forum, a not-for-profit, cross-industry platform dedicated to raising the standard of sponsorship effectiveness.
