LA-based artist @charles_moret‘s debut album ‘Spills’ captures the essence of California. It’s “a single passage moving across panels of California life, set under the California sun,” exploring themes of place, class disparity, self-recrimination, and love.

We had the opportunity to ask Charles some questions about ‘Spills’, its meaning, and the process of creating its sonic world.

Art imitates life! I got the audition for this World Series of Poker commercial starring Daniel Negreanu right when I’d just begun to get really into playing poker with my friends. I love it. I love how much there is to learn about the mathematics of it, I love the psychology, the subterfuge. Imagine my joy at getting to combine my new love with my old love, acting. Plus, everyone on set, cast and crew, was a gem.

‼️ Huge congratulations to @dnegspoker on just winning your EIGHTH @wsop bracelet! You’re an absolute legend and you were so friendly and funny on set. I wish I’d had a chance to ask you about poker, but I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you regardless. The kind of person I’d have loved meeting even without the legendary poker playing.

And shoutout to my friends who taught me to play and acted as my training ground, inadvertently preparing me for this job. I’m not done studying, so watch out. 😏
