Who benefits from the minerals that the Congolese people are dying for? Foreign Nations and Corporations: China controls a large share of the mining, extraction, and processing operations for copper and cobalt. Western Countries and Companies: The United States and other global powers secure strategic mineral partnerships for electric vehicles, defense tech, and smartphones. Multinational Tech and Auto Giants: Global brands buy the raw cobalt and coltan to build everyday consumer electronics and green energy batteries. Armed Groups and Corrupt Networks Local and Regional Militias: Armed groups in eastern Congo control lucrative mining zones like Rubaya to fund conflicts and illegal trade. Smugglers and Corrupt Officials: Illicit networks profit by moving valuable coltan, gold, and tin across borders. The eastern regions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo have been for decades in a state of internecine conflict that has often peaked in open war. The conflict is driven by a profitable and complex network of actors, including local militias, neighboring nations, multinational technology firms, and emerging global powers, who exploit the DRC's mineral wealth, including cobalt, coltan, and gold, which is essential to global industries like smartphones and electric vehicles. The conflict in the southern regions of the DRC has become an overlooked commodities hub in which violence remains cheap for those who wish to access conflict minerals at low cost and low levels of public scrutiny. The crisis in the DRC continues primarily because influential actors benefit economically and politically from ongoing instability. #love #reels #viral #breakingnews #trending
