What an incredible two weeks! Thank you to NCN Collective for such an innovative and exciting two-week residency in the Hot Shop, and thank you to everyone who joined us to see them work!

It has been a truly special honor to host these six creatives whose work and lives have intertwined over the course of decades, and to see an entirely unique collection of works take shape. The works created throughout this residency bring to life contemporary Native sculpture using innovative glass techniques, allowing the concepts and designs from the Tlingit and Nu Chah Nulth tribes to resonate through each piece.

This residency has captured the essence of our Hot Shop as a cultural and artistic hub and makers’ space. We hope this residency has been as transformative to witness as it was to experience.

It’s a beautiful weekend to join us in the Hot Shop for the NCN Collective Artist Talk!

This Sunday from 1–2pm, each artist from the NCN Collective will join a panel discussion Artist Talk with Museum of Glass staff to discuss their individual careers, the formation of the Collective, and their plans for the future. This discussion with some of the world’s most celebrated contemporary glassblowers will offer unique insights into the art form and is not to be missed.

This Artist Talk is included with regular museum admission.

They’re baaaaack! NCN Collective is back in the Hot Shop this week, June 17–21, for more Hot Shop fun.

NCN Collective is a creative group of glass makers and Indigenous artists that includes Preston Singletary, Martin Janecký, Raven Skyriver, Kelly O’Dell, Charles Parriott, and Joe David. NCN stands for Nuu-chah-nulth, the tribe that Joe David comes from. With their lives woven together, some over four decades, they collaborate in bringing life to contemporary Native sculpture using innovative glass techniques. Concepts and designs of the Tlingit and Nuu-chah-nulth tribes resonate through their unique glass sculptures.

In addition to their Hot Shop residency from 10am–5pm today through Sunday, Janecký, Skyriver, and O’Dell will be hosting a night blow on Saturday night from 5:30–8pm, where they will make one of Skyriver’s signature whale forms, featuring design work by Joe David and sandblasting by Preston Singletary. This after-hours event is a chance to see a one-of-a-kind statement piece created by this collective.

Finally, on Sunday, NCN Collective will join a panel discussion Artist Talk with Museum of Glass staff to discuss their individual careers, the formation of the Collective, and their plans for the future. This discussion with some of the world’s most celebrated contemporary glassblowers will offer unique insights into the art form and is not to be missed.

We’re thrilled to have the Collective in the Hot Shop and can’t wait to see what their next creations will be! Link in bio to buy tickets and learn more.
