Snippet of "Dancing Sunbeam" (Lucky Thompson) with @neal.miner on bass & Steve Little on drums from a trio gig at Lulla. Neal plays that music so beautifully, and @chrisbyarsjazz and him have created so much beautiful music stemming from that Lucky Thompson/Oscar Pettiford concept. @charlesperforms got them and I in the studio last year to record material for an upcoming album of Lucky Thompson music that included a few of those tunes, and I’m excited to hear it. Neal also released a book of his own compositions that bassists and other musicians should check out!

Friday evening jazz at #thebackroomberkeley - Vincent Ding album release

I was intrigued by the Asian American jazz ensemble, and I thought it was time that I checked out the Back Room.

I don’t know why I had never been to the Back Room until tonight. It’s a great intimate space for music, and I appreciate the proximity of the venue and easy parking. 😄

It was a pleasure playing at @bird.beckett with a great quartet featuring Charles Chen, Mikiya Matsuda, and Benny Amon. Here’s a clip of us playing “My Old Flame” written in 1934 by Arthur Johnston.

It was great playing a string of concerts in the Bay Area this summer. Thank you so much to everyone who packed the room at every gig. It was a pleasure playing music at some of my favorite listening and dance venues in the Bay Area like @meyhousejazz, @thesoundroomoakland, @sfbalhaus, and @sfbootleggersball.

Here’s a clip of “Echoes of Spring” from @bird.beckett with Charles Chen, Mikiya Matsuda, and Benny Amon.

Looking forward to heading back to NYC for another great semester!
