🌻April is HIE awareness month🌻

Wynter was diagnosed with stage 2 HIE.
In our case, HIE was caused by a very traumatic delivery. There were complications from my previous c section which meant that they were unable to cut along the my old scar on my uterus as it had so much excess scar tissue it infused my bladder to my uterus. This meant having to cut higher and into a T and because of this and the extra scar tissue they had trouble delivering Wynters head as it was stuck in my pelvis. They delivered her legs and torso breech and continued to have trouble delivering her head. 9minutes after her legs and body was delivered her head was finally delivered and she was born flat.. Doctors initially heard 2 heart beats however quickly determined there was no heart beat. 10minutes of CPR followed by a lot of treatment to stabilise her and 72hours of newborn therapeutic hypothermia to prevent permanent brain damage.

We are so extremely lucky that her MRI was clear and there was no brain damage however not everyone is as lucky as her.

No one can tell us what her future will look like, we just have to wait and see but so far she is blowing us away😍

I have never heard of HIE before and I’m sure a lot of you haven’t either so I wanted to create this video to help spread awareness!💜

After a long 26 days we are finally home!
What a journey our little Wynter has been on
already. This little fighter has gone through a
very traumatic delivery, born not breathing with no heartbeat so CPR for 10
minutes at birth. Diagnosed with HIE then
went through body cooling therapy (newborn
therapeutic hypothermia) for 72hours to
prevent brain damage from delivery and put
on morphine to keep her comfortable during
this process. She had a 15minute seizure on
her first night on the cooling mat and
monitored very closing with brain monitoring.
She was ventilated and had multiple
antibiotics, infusions, medications, blood
products, blood testing and cords stitched
into her belly button, and a heap of others. A
few days after birth she came off the
ventilator and onto hi flow however started
working extra hard to breath, even harder
than she was working on the ventilator so
went onto pap and an xray confirmed she
had a collapsed lung.

She finally came out of the nicu and into
special care but that day spiked a temp and
we found out she caught enterovirus then had
to have a lumber puncture done which found
the virus turned into meningitis so back in the
nicu she went. Her MRI came back clear with
no signs of brain damage from delivery, only a
skull fracture.

On the 1st of November she came off all
breathing equipment and by then all other
treatments and cords were also out so all that
was left was her feeding tube.

Yesterday the feeding tube came out and we
finally got to take our little girl home!

I waited over 5 hours to meet her, 5 days to
hold her and 26 days to bring her home but
she was worth the wait💜

So proud of how far our little girl has come and can’t wait to finally show her the world.🥰

✨Emergency c-section

It has been the most exhausting last few days of my life. Contractions started at 4:40am on Tuesday. I managed them at home for 17hours before we decided to head into the hospital. Laboured at the hospital for another 12h using only a TENS machine and gas before getting that lovely epidural! By then I was exhausted and so was she. Her heart rate kept dropping and the decision was made to head in for a c-section.

Unfortunately things didn’t go smoothly from here. To everyone’s surprised there was excess scar tissue from my previous c section and my bladder was in the wrong spot and stuck to my uterus so they had to cut a T incision high on my uterus and they couldn’t get their hands down enough to delivery her head first so her body was delivered followed by my placenta while her head was stuck in my pelvis. 9mins after her body was delivered they finally deliveried her, she was pulled out breech, and very flat.. As they were getting her out I was blacking out and woke to our poor baby girl having CPR for over 10minutes. My body wasn’t coping either, so they put me under GA and rushed Wynter to NICU.

Wynter is currently on a cooling pad to help protect her brain for 3 days, she has brain wave monitoring in to watch closely for seizures which unfortunately she had a 10minute one throughout her first night😔 luckily no more since! She on a ventilator and feeding tube, as well as lots of other little monitoring tubes in her belly button and stuck on her. She’s on lots of transfusion drips and has other little tubes for medications and things. It’s a lot!

Unfortunately I didn’t get to meet her until she was over 5hours old but luckily she had daddy by her side the whole time! I also haven’t had a chance to even hold her yet and won’t get a chance to for a while which absolutely breaks my heart..😔 It has been a really exhausting and traumatic experience for us all but all that matters is our little baby continues to improve!

Our little fighter!

Mummy and Daddy love you so much!😍
