A NEXT CHAPTER in DUB, Version 26: AUGUSTUS PABLO meets KING TUBBY IN ROOTS VIBE 🇯🇲 🔊 🇯🇲
🗣 “Reggae Gone International!” 🗣 Jamaica cheered in the1980s. This LP marks a joyful revival of that slogan: A highly respected 🇬🇧 English reissue label 🇬🇧, with the help of a 🇳🇱 Dutch vinyl collector 🇳🇱, is bringing back an album by a 🇯🇲 Jamaican producer 🇯🇲 that was compiled in 1996 for a CD released by a 🇲🇫 French label 🇲🇫. The star of the LP is AUGUSTUS PABLO. The claim on the cover that “KING TUBBY at the control” is further proof that just because it says “King Tubby” on the cover doesn’t necessarily mean King Tubby did the mix. The truth is already explained on the back of the cover: Some – though not all – of the tracks were not mixed by King Tubby himself, but at his studio, specifically by Pat Kelly, Prince Jammy, and Phillip Smart. AUGUSTUS PABLO, with his melodica, was one of the first to frequent Tubby’s studio from the very beginning, as Tubbs operated a Downtown-friendly pricing policy. The album IN ROOTS VIBE compiles dub versions of Pablo tracks based on vocal tracks produced by Bunny Lee. These include “Queen Of The Minstrel” by the Eternals, Prince Buster’s “Rough Rider,” “Three Blind Mice” by Max Romeo, Nora Dean’s “Scorpian In His Underwear,” and Sugar Minott’s “A House Is Not A Home” . Even though some of the tracks can be found on other compilations, they’re quite rare and have been freshly remastered for this LP. It’s just surprising that, with such a high-quality pressing, the motor noise from the vinyl cutter can be heard in the run-out grooves – fortunately, only there!

SMALL FACES - "Small Faces"
(2023 Reissue / Charly Records)

@charlyrecordsltd edition of the second album by @smallfacesofficial, is a lavish recreation of the original Immediate Records mono LP originally released in June 1967.

Recorded at IBC and Olympic Studios in London with Glyn Johns, this saw the group expand their sonic playground from pop and R&B to include acid-inspired psychedelia (‘Green Circles’), music hall (‘All Our Yesterdays’), waltz-time folk-rock (‘Become Like You’) to quintessential Small Faces pop at its most taut and swinging (‘Get Yourself Together’) Paul Weller’s all-time favourite Small Faces song.

This limited edition coloured vinyl is a lavish recreation of the original Immediate mono LP, adding an illustrated inner sleeve featuring sleeve notes, archive interviews with Steve Marriott & Ronnie Lane plus new and revealing interviews with Ian McLagan (shortly before he died) & Kenney Jones, photos, full band credits and recording details.

Out Now! Grachan Moncur III - Aco Dei De Madrugada (One Morning I Waked Up Very Early)

An overlooked gem from Grachan Moncur III’s catalogue, receiving its first official reissue. A distinctive blend of American creative jazz, Brazilian samba and European musical sensibility, newly restored and remastered from the original 1969 master tapes.

A rare meeting of American creative jazz, Brazilian samba and Parisian musical freedom. Recorded in Paris in 1969, Aco Dei De Madrugada (One Morning I Waked Up Very Early) captures pioneering American trombonist Grachan Moncur III in a uniquely intimate setting. Best known for his groundbreaking Blue Note albums Evolution and Some Other Stuff, Moncur travelled to France to record for the celebrated Actuel series on the pioneering BYG Records label. Following the powerful New Africa, Aco Dei De Madrugada became his second album for BYG, revealing a more restrained and melodic side of his artistry.

Available as a deluxe LP and CD in premium gatefold packaging, with exclusive new liner notes by acclaimed jazz writer Kevin Le Gendre.
