It is far too easy to take a pessimistic and cynical view of the generations that come behind us, as they rise up with all their quirks we don’t understand, lingo that sounds confusing, and ways they’ve adapted to growing up in a culture we didn’t grow up in.

And yet how tragic to miss the wild wonder of their thoughts, joy in their eyes, and energy in their young bodies. I am nothing but smitten with Gen Z in particular. I don’t think it’s just that I’m lucky enough to happen to know the best ones (although I could make a solid case for that). I think it is much more likely that, in fact, God is working in them and using them in wonderful ways, blowing through their generation and giving them experiences of Him that would cause your heart to burn within you to listen to it.

They are servant-hearted, hungry for community, authentic, passionate about Christ and His Kingdom and just wildly loving. They pray like nothing I’ve heard before and yet walk humbly and feast on wisdom. They are imperfect but eager to be shepherded and corrected. And as far as I can tell, funny as heck. I could listen to them all roast each other for days and never get bored.

To the younger saints, I just really love you to my core. You are like kids I never had and I’m thankful my heart holds so much space for that. There are so many of us praying for you, cheering for you and thinking of you far more often than you realize. It is nothing but an honor to entrust the faith we have been given to you. Run well.
