Today I am now a Houston Firefighter

A few months ago, I left my career, family, and friends in Michigan to come to Houston with 1 goal: to earn a spot in one of the most respected fire departments in the world.

Today myself and class 2026 Echo can say that’s a reality.

The transition was far from easy for me, but nothing meaningful is anyways. One thing I’ve kept coming back to after the long days is gratitude. I’m so fortunate to be able to suffer from something I set my mind to. There’s always someone wishing they had the opportunity to do what you are doing. I think one of the most beautiful things in life is doing hard shit. Face the bigger wave, start over, take that risk. Growth never happens inside your comfort zone.

With that being said, I can’t help but acknowledge the people in my life for believing in me when this was just an idea. A big piece of my resilience comes from the people around me. Some are with me every step of the way, and some are no longer here to share it with, but their influence lives through me in the way I carry myself, the standards I hold myself to, and the resilience that gets me to every accomplishment I’ve ever achieved. I am a museum of everything I’ve ever loved.
