POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Two years ago, we were living in Austin, ready for something new. We wanted our own space to be able to build something we created from the ground up. Fast forward a few short months, we had sold our house and bought a new one on 10 acres of land in Canyon Lake. Day by day, we put in the hours building something people could enjoy, something we could be proud of, something that was ours.

Within five months of moving in, The Juniper was open for business with just two sites. We now have six (greatly improved) sites and counting, with big plans for the future.

The last two years have not been easy. They’ve been nothing if not one giant learning experience. But they have also been immensely rewarding and exciting, and we don’t regret a thing.

Moral of the story: take your shot, take the leap, do the thing—whatever it is. Life is too short to waste doing things that don’t make you happy. Go live your dreams, friends. ✌🏻

Rest easy and run free, my precious angel. 🤍🌈

Addie was always our sweetest, silliest, best girl. The most wonderful sister to her brothers. The happiest soul in every room. The ideal companion.

Our hearts are broken; I don’t think our house will ever feel the same. 💔 But I’m at least at peace knowing she’s no longer in pain.

These past couple of months since her cancer diagnosis have been so hard. Nothing can really prepare you to say goodbye to a beloved member of your family. But I’m grateful we had the chance to take her on one last hurrah during our #celebrationofaddie road trip. She got to hike, swim, cuddle and play to her heart’s content, before passing in our arms at home on Sunday, about a week after we returned from our trip.

She didn’t quite make it to her 12th birthday, which is coming up on the 28th. We would love it if you all would continue celebrating her life with us by taking a special walk or swim in her honor. We can’t thank everyone enough for the support we’ve already received during this horrible time. 🫶🏻

This is a tough post, but stick with me. 🥺

A few weeks ago, we found out our sweet Addie girl likely has cancer, with little opportunity for advanced treatment. But we don’t want to focus on that right now. This sweet lady’s 12th birthday is this month, so, we are making October a monthlong Celebration of Addie — a celebration of her beautiful life. 🥳🐕‍🦺

This includes lots of lovins, healthy goodies, playtime, and a fun family road trip featuring all sorts of Addie-friendly hiking, swimming and — her favorite — spending quality time with her squad. So I’ll be posting updates of our fun throughout the month so you all can celebrate Addie with us. 🙂

I hope you all will join us in the Celebration of Addie! I would even encourage some of you to spend some extra quality time with your babies. Take a special walk or go for a swim in Addie’s honor and tag us. We’d love to see your adventures. 🫶🏻

They took us to San Antonio to see the Alamo and the river walk on our last night. We had a blast and hope to see y’all soon!

We are incredibly excited to be celebrating our first year officially in business this weekend! 🎉

Reaching this milestone has us feeling nostalgic, as we’ve been reflecting a lot on how much has changed both over the last year and our nearly 8 years together.

Here’s our story in 10 slides:
1. We’re Chase and Sarah, co-founders of The Juniper!

2. Chase grew up in southern Michigan camping with his family, where he discovered the beauty of a cool summer night by the campfire at an early age.

3. I (Sarah) grew up in western Maryland visiting family in southern West Virginia, where I found my love for the mountains and peace in the wilderness.

4. We met in 2015 in Charleston, West Virginia, where we had both gotten our first post-grad jobs. Chase was a TV reporter and I was a newspaper reporter, and we happened to work in the same newsroom. We quickly bonded over our dogs and dreams of adventure.

5. The next year, we moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. We sold almost all of our belongings to scrape together a $5,000 down payment for a tiny bungalow built in 1927 that had “good bones” but needed a ton of work for barely over $100k. We put an insane amount of work into this house, legitimately leaving no room untouched.

6. After 2 years of turning that little old house into a home, we sold it to move south, using the equity to buy a house in Austin that needed just a little bit less work than the last. It was a quirky, unique house built in the ‘70s that had clearly lived many lives before we moved in.

7. On March 27, 2021, we got married in Canyon Lake. Our wedding is the reason we knew how beautiful Canyon Lake was, and was our inspiration for moving.

8. After 3 years of fixing up our Austin home, we sold it in pursuit of a new way of life. We found a little ranch house on 10 acres of untouched land, and used equity from the sale of our home again to put down roots in Canyon Lake in February 2022.

9. We hit the ground running, spending the next four months cleaning up the land, building a bathroom, running electrical lines and putting up tents.

10. We officially hosted our first guest on June 10, 2022, and have been gaining momentum ever since.✨

We are thrilled to introduce our newest tent, Andorra! 🧡

🏕️Andorra will be available to book on @airbnb, @vrbo and @hipcamp later this week! Look out for another post with listing details and more info on this beautiful space super soon!

🔎 This setup has one distinct difference compared to our other tents. Can you spot what it is?

***

🌎 Fun fact: Our tents are named after places we’ve visited. We got the chance to visit Andorra🇦🇩 last fall on a day trip from Spain, and we absolutely adored it. If you have a chance to see Andorra, we highly recommend it.

Do we still have a school bus to finish renovating? Yes.

Are we also breaking ground on new *non-tent* sites? … Also yes. 😁

Any guesses for what we’re working on now?? Let us know in the comments ⬇️

Stay tuned for updates! 📺

Saying goodbye to our Austin home was bittersweet. We spent three years pouring money and sweat equity into fixing up our quirky house that came adorned with all sorts of original fixtures straight out of the ‘70s. But we had goals that we couldn’t attain where we were, so we knew it was time to move on.

We used the equity from the sale to buy a cute little house on 10 acres in Canyon Lake, and immediately got to work building The Juniper from the ground up.

Less than six months later, we officially opened for business.

We’re still a while away from reaching our goals, but as we approach our first year in business next month, we already know this is the greatest decision we’ve ever made.

Don’t let fear hold you back, friends. Take the risk, make the sacrifice — it will be worth it.

We just spent two beautiful weeks in Chile to celebrate co-founder Sarah’s birthday and take some much-needed time away from reality here at the ranch.

🏞️We explored several regions of this vast country, including Torres del Paine National Park and Puerto Varas in the Patagonia, as well as the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, knocking a few items off of our “bucket lists” along the way.

🌎Fun fact: All of our tents are named after places we’ve traveled. So now, we’ll need to add some Chile names into the mix when we open new sites this year.

Now, we’re getting back into our routine and life here at The Juniper. Stay tuned for more glamping content as we enter peak season!

Sometimes, like when an ice storm pulls a ton of limbs off your trees, this is what owning a small business looks like: working hard on unrewarding things. But it’s all part of the gig.

After a busy few days, cleanup is complete and the glampground is ready for our Valentine’s Day guests this weekend. 🥰

“Where did you learn to do all of this?”
“Wow, I didn’t know you guys were so handy!”
“How did you come up with that?”

We get questions like this a lot. And to be honest, our success boils down to a few simple things:
1. Willingness to try.
2. Willingness to fail.
3. Willingness to adapt and overcome.

We aren’t professionals. We aren’t trained in the trades. But we both know we can do whatever we put our minds to, one way or another. No matter what challenge we face along the way, we find a way around it. It’s about being flexible and resourceful, and being able to take setbacks in stride.

But, most importantly, you just have to believe in yourself. If you don’t, who will?✨

➡️P.S., stay tuned for shower updates! We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on. 🙂
