“so far so good” - fall

We went for a hike and found a cliff over looking the Salt Lake Valley. We talked about the state of the world and the way we see things. We talked about shit we are stoked about. And we talked about shit that we’re scared of. We set up my 35mm film camera, not to “create content,” but to capture memories. #getoffsocial.media #analogftw

/ Cheers to three phenomenal years with the legendary Cheat Code Agency!

Joining Cheat Code as their first-ever hire back in 2023 has been truly an honor, on top of working alongside the most talented team in the world.

A massive thank you to the legends, @benjigallagher and @gradyrains for not just believing in me but giving me the chance to learn from two of the greatest in the game.

It has been a blessing to watch this journey unfold from day one, but this is truly just the beginning.

Three years down, and forever more to come! 🚀

A backwards look at this past year. There have been some highs, and there have been some serious lows. I am grateful for friends who have stuck it out and for family that has supported me.

A few highlights and lowlights:
Graduated with a Masters degree
Started two jobs
Bought a motorcycle
Moved
Made some new friends
Got a biopsy for a tumor (benign, thankfully)

Hopefully more highlights in the months ahead. Life is a blessing, trying to make the most of it 🙏

“There’s not a lot more important in life than who your friends are.”

Over 15 years ago my best man quoted that in the story he shared at my wedding dinner. He said it was something that I had told him a few years prior that stuck with him.

Unfortunately, some friendships don’t last. We ended up going our separate ways about 7 years later. It sucked for a long time, and I honestly miss the friendship we had. But I’m still cheering him on from afar. And who knows, maybe someday we’ll be friends again.

I stand by what I said to him all those years ago though. While there may be a few things more important in life than who your friends are, there’s not much.

Early in my construction career, I didn’t really have any friends at work. Plenty of family, but not really any friends. It took me years to actually build some friendships inside of work. But even then, not many of those friendships were outside of work too.

It wasn’t until I started traveling the country with a camera and helping to build the photo/video production team at BuildWitt that I actually had friends at work.

And perhaps you’re more of the mind that work and friendship should be separate. But I disagree.

Obviously there needs to be a certain amount of professionalism when it’s called for. But damn, work is sooo much more enjoyable when you love who you’re working with.

I traveled all over the country for years with these guys here. We’ve been on hundreds of job sites together in dozens of states, in every weather condition there is. We shared meals, late nights working, countless airbnbs, long ass drives, and some of the earliest mornings I’ve ever had.

I’ve even hosted them in my house (yes, all of them, and others) when the travel ended up being in Utah.

We’ve done some really badass projects together, and also apart, since we’ve now all gone our own directions professionally. It was awesome reconnecting as a group at ConExpo.

Regardless of where the future takes us all, I’ll always remember the awesome adventures we’ve had together.

Do you prefer working with friends? Why or why not?
