Some moments never get old.

Hunting is so much more than pulling the trigger.

Even after years of guiding in the Kalahari, I still stop and appreciate these small moments. Kneeling beside a client's Impala, admiring a mature old ram after a hard-earned stalk, reminds me why we do this.

A great stalk is a great stalk. It doesn't matter whether it's an Impala or a Gemsbok. It's the wind, the tracks, the patience, the final approach, and sharing that moment with someone who's just experienced the Kalahari the way it was meant to be hunted.

At HTK Safaris, we don't chase numbers. We chase authentic experiences and mature animals, creating memories that stay with you long after the hunt is over.

The look on a client's face after an unforgettable stalk in the Kalahari—that's what it's all about.

The Taste of the Kalahari!

A springbok rack of ribs from camp a while back — and certainly one of our favourites.

There’s something truly special about the full circle of the safari experience. The excitement of the hunt, the satisfaction of harvesting an animal, and then sitting around camp enjoying the very same game you pursued is an experience that stays with you.

At HTK Safaris, we believe the experience doesn’t end when the hunt is over. Exceptional game meals are a big part of the HTK experience, and we strive to provide some of the best game you’ve ever tasted.

From the Kalahari to the campfire, from the hunt to the table — this is what a true African safari is all about.

Gemsbok Hunting in the Kalahari!

There are few things that get the adrenaline going quite like a gemsbok hunt in the Kalahari. Two exceptional Gemsbok down during the morning session, and both hunts were a perfect reminder of why these animals are so special to hunt.

On this one, we stepped off the truck and immediately went into a spot-and-stalk. We picked up a good bull and slowly started working our way closer, carefully reading the terrain and every movement. Eventually, we found him bedded down.

Now came the hard part — waiting.

Gemsbok hunting is never easy. They are extremely wary, sharp-eyed animals, and one wrong move can end the stalk before it even begins. So we settled in and waited, knowing that patience could be the difference between getting an opportunity and watching the bull disappear into the Kalahari.

Eventually, he got to his feet.

For a moment, everything came together. He presented a beautiful broadside shot, and after all the tracking, crawling, waiting and anticipation, the opportunity we had worked so hard for was finally there.

That is what makes true walk-and-stalk hunting so rewarding. You earn every opportunity. You work with the terrain, learn the animal and slowly close the distance until you are presented with the closest and best possible shot.

The Kalahari has a way of producing exceptional gemsbok, but it makes you work for them.
What an adrenaline-filled morning, what an incredible hunt, and what a week we had in the Kalahari.

The Kalahari Stays With You!

There are places you visit, and then there are places that become a part of you. The Kalahari is one of those places.

Our latest group left with heavy hearts after an exceptional hunting vacation in the Kalahari.

Because somewhere between the long days in the bush, the tracks in the red sand, the excitement of the hunt and the evenings around the fire, something special happens. You stop being clients and outfitters and start becoming friends.

You share stories, laughter, challenges, successes and quiet moments. You get to know each other beyond the hunt, and before you know it, a group of people who arrived as strangers have become part of the HTK family.

The hunting is exceptional, but the Kalahari is about so much more than the animals.

It’s the people.
It’s the sunsets.
It’s the red sand beneath your boots.
It’s the campfire stories and the quiet moments.
It’s the wildness, the space and the feeling of being somewhere truly special.

And perhaps that’s why leaving is never easy.

Somehow, along the way, the Kalahari stops being just a destination.

It becomes a place you carry with you.
