This summer, Diné Kids Film Club took a different path. Instead of hosting another virtual summer camp, we focused on the very thing we encourage Native youth to do: make movies!

We’re proud to share that DKFC has officially wrapped its first film production! 🎬✨

This milestone was made possible through the incredible support of @ojoalmafilms and a community of artists, storytellers, and houses of sound, light, and art who believed in this vision and helped bring it to life.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, talent, resources, and encouragement. This is only the beginning.

Here’s to many more productions, more stories from Native peoples, and welcoming new friends, family members, and collaborators who may join us in leading future workshops—both virtually and in person.

The cameras are rolling. The stories are coming. And we’re just getting started. 🎥🔥

The Sintern 2024

We shot this movie in January and it Aired in July. On Tubi! I watched it recently and I’m proud of the work we did. Grateful for the opportunity.

There were way more people that worked on this movie than I’ll ever know or remember but thank you all for your hard work.

A few years ago, I was reached out by @ianrgrau to join on a little short film project called Borders and do their sound design. It proved not only to be one of my favorite projects I have worked on, but also a highlight of my work and everything I have learned about sound design up until then. Who would have thought that just a year later, we would be doing it all again.

Borders! Border 2? Borders 2024? Borders: Extended Cut? Regardless, this version was bigger and better! So much happened on this project, the scope truly boggles me even today. From the production-side, it was 5 days of desert shooting, concert raving, gunslinging, (fake) drug smuggling, tears-balling action. From the post-production-side, it was 30 minutes of suspenseful, violent, shocking, kick-ass action. I, along with the rest of the crew, had to bring their best to make the project come fully to life.

This production brought many challenges to the table for me from car ambience to weapon design to somber moments to high action sequences to footsteps. Yes, footsteps. But, with sheer willpower, brilliant direction from director @ashkiiloco, and a gallon of sand in a giant container in my closet, we brought it to life. I am exceedingly proud of the final result, not only from my department, but from every aspect of the film. Big thanks to the Art Department (@gucci.giang, @locosmarties11, @bdrj_luv) for bringing me on the actual set and making this production look astounding, as well as Kenneth and Ian for trusting me and allowing me to shape the soundscape. I look forward to what this project may bring in the future (Borders 3?) and what these incredibly talented filmmakers will do next.
