A little recap of our NIRCA Regional Race! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🔥

Only our SECOND year competing, and we showed OUT! We literally traveled six hours in the evening to New Hampshire to race, and I couldn’t be prouder of every single person who showed up, pushed through, and gave it their all even those who weren’t feeling 100%. ❤️

“Our women finished 11th with 274 points, and our men secured an INCREDIBLE 4th place with 107 points, qualifying for the championship race at Nationals! 🏆 We narrowly missed 3rd to UMass Amherst in a tiebreaker (💔 goodbye, fun plaque), but hey… we weren’t first, and we definitely weren’t last! 😂

We exceeded expectations, proved we belong with the top teams, and still have SO MUCH MORE to give. And yes, I predicted our men’s 4th-place finish perfectly, so let me have my moment. 🤭🔮

Proud is an understatement. Nationals, WE’RE COMING. 👀🔥” Omar Mahmood

The full race recap was written by Omar Mahmood! If you’d like to read his blog post and learn more about the race, please DM @omar.mahmood504 directly for more information. Be sure to show support for his work and the time and effort he put into documenting our team’s experience! ✊🏾❤️

I Remember when I started this club 4 years ago we only had 4 people. It was all a dreammm. Now the Eboard is running the show. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Saturday’s field trip to Mansfield, Connecticut was EPIC. 🏁💜

Nobody really knew what NYU was about.

Then came NIRCA.

Stony Brook.
Boston University.
UConn.
Yale.

And then there was US.

5 AM wake up. Zero excuses. ALL GAS. 🔥

Three hours out of Washington Square, all the way to Mansfield, Connecticut basically the middle of nowhere. 😭

But we didn’t drive three hours just to show up.

We came to RACE.

We showed up ready to compete, ready to have fun, and ready to leave it all on the course.

I told them:

“Do your best, have fun… butttt SMOKE EVERYBODYYY!” 😝📈💜

And these women CAME THROUGH.

🥈 2ND PLACE OVERALL. 🚺🔥

NYU stepped onto that starting line and CRUSHED IT.

And my boy Eli?

HE TOOK FIRST. 🥇🔥

That was the moment everything changed.

Because we didn’t come here to play around.

We came to race.
We came to compete.
We came to build something.

WE CAME TO STAY.

The work.
The energy.
The sisterhood.
The fight.

THAT’S what it’s all about. 🏃🏻‍♀️💨💜

Every race, we get better.
Every workout, we get closer.
Every mile, we build something.

This is just the beginning.

NYU WE ARE HERE TO STAY. 💜🚺🔥

NYU.

Remember the name.

And trust me…

WE’RE JUST GETTING STARTED. 😈🏁💜

Chapter 8: One Final Run

I started coming to SMRC back in 2017 when I was 13 years old. Back then, it was just a week at running camp for me, but I could have never imagined how important this camp would become to my life. I made so many friends as a camper as I got to be a part of some amazing groups like Electric 11 and the God Squad. Then I became a part of a family once I became a counselor after I graduated high school in 2022. I have had the pleasure of leading groups of amazing young runners alongside even greater co-counselors. I take pride in even the slightest positive influence that I may have had on each camper’s life or running career or both. I want to thank Coach Spangler and Coach SPO for always welcoming me back to this place that I consider my home away from home, and I want to thank all the friends I’ve made along the way for making this camp the best 3 week excursion there can possibly be. This year I had to grapple with the fact that this may be my last time at Smoky Mountain Running Camp. Eventually, we all have lives we have to move along into. I am however thankful that the Lord has lead me down a path that could potentially see me coming back for a long while. Who knows, I may be back next year or some other time down the road speaking up on stage to the campers or hosting a breakout session or still leading a group, but in the event this really was my last run at Smoky Mountain, I’m delighted that it ended the way it did. Remember SMRC family past, present, and future… miles of smiles until we meet again.

First year as Assistant Director & year 13 at Nike SMRC and we didn’t burn the place down. 160 miles and 22 days later, grateful for such a fun few weeks. Chopping it up with Olympians & national champions, awesome trail & track runs, and being surrounded by close friends pursuing big goals on and off the course. Excited for the fall! #SEC #LabanPilipinas #DayQuil #LittleJumbo #Merck #Godspeed #PursueMoments 📸🐐 @_samedwards2
