🚩 THE RED FLAGS WE IGNORE TODAY COULD BECOME THE CONVERSATIONS WE WISH WE HAD TOMORROW.

And that is exactly why @ellamacduff and @terimacduff ‘s @chasingredflagsofficial work matters so deeply to me.

At 19, I attempted to end my life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. The instant my hands left that rail, I knew I wanted to live.

Today, I spend my life reminding people that pain is real, hope is real, help is available, and recovery is possible.

Ella and Teri are helping bring important conversations into the open, encouraging us to recognize warning signs, listen without judgment, and find the courage to speak about what too many people suffer through in silence.

Because sometimes a conversation is more than a conversation.

Sometimes it is the beginning of healing.

Sometimes it is the moment someone realizes they are not alone.

And sometimes it helps save a life.

I am immensely grateful for these two remarkable women and the work they are doing through Chasing Red Flags.

It’s World Mental Health Day, and I want to share a little of what you don’t always see.

I can post happy pictures, show up for work, laugh with my friends, and still have moments like these.

We all can, and that’s okay.

Check on your people.
Even the ones who seem happy.
Even the ones who are always checking on everyone else.

You never fully know what someone is going through behind closed doors.

I’m so grateful for what my mom and I have built with @chasingredflagsofficial and for the people who remind me that being real and honest about the hard stuff can help someone else feel less alone.

Talking about mental health doesn’t mean I have mine all figured out.

If you’ve had moments like these, I hope you know you don’t have to hide them to be loved. You deserve support even when you can’t find the words to ask for it. 🤍

Your child can look successful and still be struggling.

This episode of @successreimagined_podcast is a conversation between two people who know that better than most — a mother and daughter who turned their hardest years into @chasingredflagsofficial. It's about the space between looking fine and being fine, and what it actually takes to close that gap: less fixing, more listening, and room to fail without it meaning something's wrong.

The goal was never a perfect kid. It was a kid who knows they're allowed to be human.

"Do you want me to listen, or do you want me to help?"

That's the question @terimacduff learned to ask her daughter Ella — and it changed how they talk to each other. On this episode of @successreimagined_podcast, the founders of @chasingredflagsofficial got honest about the gap between how a kid looks on the outside and what's actually happening underneath. Ella described the toll of anxiety, social media, and the pressure to seem fine. Teri described what she had to unlearn to actually hear her.

We also talked about how failure — not the avoidance of it — is what builds resilience, and why letting your child be different from you is one of the most generous things you can do as a parent.

🤍 Fixing isn't always what's needed — sometimes it's just listening

🤍 Perfectionism is often inherited, not chosen

🤍 Mistakes are where resilience gets built

🤍 Your kid gets to become their own person

Perfection creates pressure, and honesty creates connection.

That's the line that stayed with me after this conversation with
@terimacduff and Ella Macduff, the mother-daughter duo behind @chasingredflagsofficial, on this episode of @successreimagined_podcast. Ella opened up about what anxiety, unhealthy relationships, social media, and the pressure to appear "fine" actually did to her mental health — even while everything on the outside looked okay. Teri shared what she had to unlearn as a parent, especially the shift from fixing to listening.

A few things that stuck with me:

🌱 A child can look successful and still be struggling — good grades and a full schedule don't always reflect what's happening internally

🌱 Stop fixing, start listening — ask "Do you want me to listen, or do you want me to help?" before jumping in

🌱 Perfectionism often gets passed down unintentionally, through pressure to do things "the right way"

🌱 Failure builds resilience — kids need space to make mistakes and recover from them

🌱 Your child is not you — and that's a good thing

If you're a parent, or you're the kid who learned to look fine on the outside, this one is for you.

“WE REALIZED WE DIDN’T WANT PEOPLE TO FEEL AS ALONE IN THEIR EXPERIENCES AS WE DID.”

What happens when you stop ignoring the warning signs inside yourself?

When I sat down with @getrealwithella and @terimacduff on the @hinesightspodcast , we dove deep into the power of turning pain into purpose. Ella shared how an eight-hour road trip transformed into the mission behind @chasingredflagsofficial , a space born from analyzing the moments we stay quiet, the things we ignore, and the times we wish we had trusted our gut.

We talked through why we need safe spaces to discuss the real, messy parts of being human instead of just highlighting the perfect moments. When we open up about the things we used to ignore, we give others permission to feel less alone.

Sometimes the people closest to us are fighting battles we know nothing about.

Even a mother and daughter.

When I sat down with the incredible Teri and Ella MacDuff of @chasingredflagsofficial and @getrealwithella , what moved me most was how deeply they loved each other while simultaneously fighting very different battles in silence.

Ella was navigating an eating disorder, anxiety, an unhealthy relationship, and profound trauma.

At the same time, Teri was struggling with severe depression after spine surgery while carrying the pressure so many mothers know: I have to hold everything together.

Two women. One family. Two very different battles. So much left unsaid.

Until they finally told each other the truth.

That conversation changed everything.

From their healing came @chasingredflagsofficial and the powerful @letsgetrealjournal built around one truth our world desperately needs:

REAL IS GREATER THAN PERFECT.

Their story reminds us that loving someone does not always mean knowing how much they are hurting.

The mother caring for everyone else may need someone to ask how she is doing.

The child saying “I’m fine” may be carrying pain they do not yet know how to explain.

So ask the deeper question.

Listen without judgment.

Make room for the truth.

Because sometimes healing begins with four courageous words:

“I need help now.”

And sometimes one honest conversation between a mother and daughter can change two lives, and those two lives can go on to change thousands more.
