This isn't just a 4th of July weekend. It's America's 250th.
On Saturday, the National Mall becomes the biggest fireworks display in American history — 850,000 shells launched from 10 sites for 40 minutes, aiming to break the world record. But that's one moment in a weekend of them. Across the DMV, this weekend also brings a free 12-hour block party at the Willard, garden cocktails on a 14th Street patio, a nine-hour Black-led arts and music festival on the Baltimore waterfront, three days of Hamilton and colonial history in Annapolis, live music at Lake Kittamaqundi in Columbia, an Afrobeats and wine festival at Union Market, a three-venue block party in Navy Yard, throwback denim parties on downtown rooftops, and Fairfax and Vienna each throwing their own local shows.
12 ways to spend the long weekend across DC, Maryland, and Virginia. 9 of them free.
Save this. Send it to whoever's asking where to watch the fireworks.

it’s time to meet another one of our artists: @chasingstraights!

Chasing Straights is a four-piece rock band based out of the Philadelphia area. Sam Capolongo (lead vocals/guitar) founded the band in 2020, releasing the first EP, “Hardly off the Ground” a year later. In 2021, current members Sean Gallagher (guitar) and Nate Gittelman (drums) joined, creating a more diverse sound for their latest EP, “On to the Next One.” With their late 90’s post-grunge arrangements built around Capolongo’s heartfelt lyrics and folk-pop inspired melodies, Chasing Straights showcases a unique sound capable of hooking fans of a wide variety of genres. Their latest single “Long Live the King” is available on all streaming platforms.
