In this case it back fired🤖❌ @deadline & ‘Save Our Voices Now’ helped uncover the truth about a daughters tale of distress & anger when hearing her fathers voice (Paul Vaughan) on Royal Mail Christmas Adverts over 10 years after he died! No warning, no apology. No payment! Peter Caulfield, actor & Save Our Voices Now campaign founder said: “When Lucy came to me with this story I just wanted to get to the truth for her and her family. Sadly, I don’t think everyone involved has been totally transparent, and AI cloning is built on stolen property, which sets the president. But what we do know is that her father Paul Vaughan built his career with his own unique voice and delivery. Whether Royal Mail admit it or not the AI voice they chose to use, built through ElevenLabs, is extremely similar to Paul’s. And if he was alive, would have been the perfect choice for a British Advert all about warmth, love and familiarity at Christmas. I think The Royal Mail should know better than to use AI at all. A brand built on real tangible things we can touch; letters, parcels and gifts. Ethically it’s shortsighted, and in this case morally corrupt. Using AI in this way, whether inadvertently or not, without thorough checks, can result in a company stealing a voice from the grave and causing great upset to the family involved. If companies want to use a voice, based on someone, they should have to ask permission first, and they should have to pay for it. Or even better how about using a real voice of someone alive, and as talented as Paul was. People do not want to be fooled into listening to fake soulless bots at Christmas.
