It is our job to bridge the gap between the performance and rehab worlds. We cannot diagnose injury, BUT we can understand mechanistically how injuries occur and how to properly prescribe load and movement variations to limit risk of exposure.

In actuality, performance and rehab are the same world. It’s just different ends of the spectrum. One is preventative measures while the other is reactionary measures. But when prevention and reaction interact, systems are developed to connect the dots where we work together to address things on a micro scale before it magnifies and becomes a macro problem.

What I’m saying is, if you do what you SHOULD do for the athlete, you develop relationships with Athletic trainers and Clinician’s to provide all around care for the athlete and not just care when things go sideways.

We both want to protect our athletes. Coaches thrive off availability. The only way we can increase availability is to increase conversation and coexist in spaces where we speak the same language and eliminate these barriers of interpretation.

To truly advance in the worlds of performance and rehab, you have to understand what can go bad so you can better navigate through the good.

That meal you eat tonight? That’s your gas tank for tomorrow’s lift. You’re loading glycogen (stored carbs) while you sleep so you can actually hit numbers in the morning.

I understand everyone doesn’t like eating in the morning, and there’s nothing wrong with that WHEN we develop ways to account for that. That evening meal can really make a difference for your morning workout if you’re intentional about it.

This is for athletes AND non athletes. Please share! ☺️

Do you prefer to eat breakfast?

“Icing makes me feel better”

It makes you feel better because that’s what you’ve been taught. So when you experience pain, you have an emotional attachment to immediately seeking ice. Most people’s first reference point for addressing pain is ice.

Icing an injury is useful WHEN there is inflammation. HOWEVER, when there isn’t any inflammation, we are working backwards. Let’s talk science.

We have to understand the sciences of icing. Icing is to control inflammation. We reduce swelling and fluid leaking into the tissue.

But when there’s no swelling, you’re not dealing with an inflammatory overload. You’re dealing with tissue irritation or micro-damage, and those tissues need blood flow to recover. Blood delivers oxygen, nutrients, and immune cells that handle repair.

When you ice something that isn’t inflamed, you’re basically telling your body:

“Don’t send resources here.”
So you slow down the very process that would help it heal.

When you are experiencing pain or irritation, we want to promote gentle range of motion to increase circulation while avoiding overloading the joint.

We do NOT want to just be still!! And we DEFINITELY don’t want to bypass the athletic trainer when he’s literally three rooms over 😒🙄

If your car is messed up, take it to the shop. Don’t wait until it breaks down to cry when the check engine light has been on the WHOLE time

MESSAGE ‼️

Swollen = chill it down
Tight/sore = move it around

I’d really appreciate if you all would share this like come on now lol

All Sprinting is, is organized plyometrics

When we sprint, we are asking our body to produce high amounts of force each stride we take. When sprinting full speed, max force each stride.

Sprinting is powerful. You need to be strength. We build strength in the weight room.

Now the connecting point from the weight room to your field of play is plyometrics. Teaching the body how to express, manage, and absorb these forces we undergo in the weight room, but at higher intensity.

That’s why no matter how strong you are in the weight room, it doesn’t correlate to getting faster unless you actually do something to get faster.

You gotta sprint.

Now running fast and sprinting aren’t the same thing lol sprinting is about positions of pelvis, ankle, knees, arms, head, etc. to maximize force being produced. That’s why we emphasize technique.

Running fast is simply moving your limbs rapidly to get from point A to point B with no regard to positioning.

“I’m not a track athlete” you’re correct. You don’t JUST sprint in your sport. That doesn’t mean you don’t know HOW to sprint. Not learning how to sprint is just as bad as saying you don’t have to know how to lift because you’re not power lifter.

See how long your career last.

Weight room builds the strength, plyometrics express the strength, sprinting puts it all together. The more power you have and the better you can express it, the more it’ll translate to sprinting, jumping, throwing, etc.

Get stronger in absence of doing plyometrics and go sprint. I’ll be working with you and that injury because your body couldn’t tolerate those forces since it HASN’T BEEN TAUGHT TO

I can go on for days but I’ll end it here. Hope you enjoyed reading this glorious caption.

Did you learn something?!
