As Chair of Women in the NAACP (WIN), Islip Town Branch, I am honored to share that the Islip/Smithtown NAACP is truly grateful to have had the privilege of hosting Long Island’s very own Dr. Joyce Gholson, DO, Addiction Medicine and Family Health Specialist, Cerene Prince, LCSW, Founder of Orchard Blue Counseling Services, Dr. Joanne Cacciatore, author of Bearing the Unbearable.and founder of Selah Carefarm and our compassionate moderators, Charvorn Davis Pierce and Andrea Midy, during the Coping with Grief and Loss During the Holidays Fireside Chat on Thursday, December 12th, at Central Islip Public Library.

Dr. Gholson provided profound insights into how grief affects the body and brain, as well as thoughtful guidance on recognizing signs of abuse and dependency, such as using alcohol to cope with loss. Cerene Prince shared empowering therapeutic tools and practical techniques to help individuals navigate grief with strength and structure during this tender season.

Dr. Joanne Cacciatore brought an unmatched depth of knowledge and compassion, offering wisdom from her work and her powerful book Bearing the Unbearable. Her reflections on navigating loss reminded us all that healing is a journey, one that requires patience, support, and understanding.

A heartfelt thank you to Charvorn and Andrea, whose thoughtful moderation created a safe and supportive space, fostering meaningful conversations and a deep sense of connection within our community.

Together, you turned this event into a source of healing, hope, and understanding. We are deeply grateful for your expertise, compassion, and the care you brought to this important discussion. I can't thank you all enough. If you or someone you know is in need of grief support, please reach out to #OrchardCounselingServices
