Just a little something my squad cooked up for my boy @kevinlimagic. I’ve been working with Kevin since Day 1, ever since I met him at the magic castle. He was the first person to give me a chance, and I’ve truly seen him evolve. I’m proud to be here with him as we move into the future 🫶🏼

LOUDER out now on my IGTV and YouTube. 👁
⠀
I wrote Louder about my upbringing. I wrote it from a place of real anger. I am still angry. I still have a lot of healing to do and am working on forgiveness. I've spent most of my life so far in a state of numbness, self-destructive behaviors, and a learned self-hatred, but last year, I began therapy with an amazing woman and started speaking about my childhood for the first time. Since then, I have been learning how to take back ownership of my words, my body, my sexuality, my life, and because of this, I have never felt more hopeful than I do today. So even though Louder was written about something painful, it’s also a very hopeful song. 〰️
⠀
For the upcoming election, the AAPI Civic Engagement Fund asked me to create art that would "inspire and make sure AAPI stories and experiences are represented” to galvanize the AAPI vote. Mine is only one AAPI story, but I thought that a song I wrote about finding my way back to my voice could help AAPI remember the power of our collective voices. 〰️
⠀
Thank you to the AAPI Civic Engagement Fund for this opportunity, and to the 40 AAPI artists, activists, and changemakers who participated in this project. More to come about them in the next few weeks. 〰️
⠀
Writing this song was a very physical experience. It felt like an explosion from my chest, of words and sound I’d been keeping inside, so whether you are AAPI or not, thanks for listening and being here. ❤️
