The weather forecast said calm skies, but the storm showed up early, and with full force! Here’s how our artist community pulled off a 90-minute emergency rescue at Showa Alley!

When we arrived to set up, sudden, intense gusts of wind took everyone by surprise. Tents were literally lifting off the ground and displays were tipping over before anyone could even finish unpacking!

Huge thank you to our sweet booth neighbor @pickle.mimi, who brought us morning donuts to keep our spirits up. Sadly, our only official casualty of the day was watching our donut get swept straight into the air by a rogue gust before we took a single bite! 🕊️🍩 (RIP, sweet donut).

Despite the chaos, Team Takumi Alley pivoted insanely fast and relocated the entire artists market indoors. In true maker community spirit, everyone jumped in to help each other haul inventory, and completely re-set up with less than 90 minutes before doors opened.

Moving inside saved all of our handmade pieces right before the heavy rain poured down outside! 🌧️

Once the event starts, the energy was pure magic—glowing lanterns, vibrant cultural performances, and the delicious aroma of food stalls created the coziest night-market atmosphere. ⛩️

We’re so deeply grateful for @takumialley & @the_shokudo_series and vendor family filled with quick thinking, kindness, and heart. Thank you to everyone who braved the weather to visit our booth and support small artists! 🤍

The storm hit much earlier, and WAY stronger than the forecast promised. Vendors were mid-setup when sudden gusts started lifting heavy tents right off the ground and knocking over displays!

Our only booth casualty of the day? Watching our donut literally get swept away by a wind gust before we got a single bite. 🕊️🍩

Come and experience a bit of Japan as the GVJCI @gardenavalleyjci breezeway is transformed into a yokocho! (Yokocho is Japanese for “alleyway,” but it has grown in meaning to refer to the narrow streets packed with izakayas, bars, and eateries tucked away in Japan's busy streets.)

Find me and other fellow Takumi Alley @takumialley artists along with food, entertainment, crafts, games, and a raffle with several drawings throughout the day.

I'll have my washi tape, stickers, stamps, sticker sheets, and more of my art + stationery goods!
