Join us for the group-curated show during Open Studio Night 2026!

Haptic Feedback is curated by Soo Kim, Helena Rodriguez, and Jonah Sanderson and presents paintings and sculptures that evoke a desire for touch in their vibrancy and texture. Artworks in the group exhibition involve creative labor and ask the audience to imagine how the objects feel based on their appearance. Both figurative and abstract approaches inhabit a boundary between vision and a response from touch or scent.

Participating Artists: Isabel Sorrells, Ruby Howell, Chloe Macaulay, Lauria Rodea, Kirsten Lofgren, Debra Couch, Won Ji Lim, Nina Sun, HaeJung Lee, and Emilie Dashe

Haptic Feedback
October 16-17, 2026
Maclean Building 1006 (112 S Michigan Ave)

When artist Isabel “Izzy” Sorrells ’23 returned to Lafayette this month, it wasn’t just a homecoming.

It was a transformation of memory into something tangible, collaborative, and lasting—a fitting way to celebrate Founders’ Week during the College’s historic Bicentennial.

Sorrells, who earned a bachelor’s degree in art, returned to campus March 10-12 to lead a collaborative mural project in Farinon College Center. The piece invited students to use a paintbrush 🖌️ to leave their own mark on Lafayette.

Maintaining close ties with her alma mater and contributing to the College community that helped shape her, Sorrells says, is her way of “showing my love and gratitude for the faculty and the Art Department, and for the place where I had the most significant personal development of my life and truly found myself.” #LafayetteCollege200

We are so excited to introduce Isabel Sorrells as a featured artist in our upcoming show on January 31st!

Her main subject is plant-human hybrids, that she refers to as her “orchid monsters,” blurring the line between body and botany, beauty and violence, resisting objectification and fixed identity.

Controlled yet chaotic, her work uses symmetry, repetition, and vibrant color pallets to create tension between restraint and turbulence.

We are so excited for you to see Isabel’s work in person at our show on Saturday!

Isabel’s thoughts on titles and the potential bluntness of art…

Do you think artwork is most successful when the work is ambiguous or when the title clues you into what the artist was thinking when they painted it?

Isabel talks about the classic artist conundrum of constantly learning from the temperament of the material!

Her new paintings will debut on January 31, 2026, presented by Point Blanc and available through an exclusive in-person auction at 101 Reade St!

We can’t wait to see you there :)

We’re proud to announce Isabel Sorrells as the final featured artist in our upcoming show!

Based in Connecticut and working across oil painting and printmaking, Isabel explores survival as a continuous process of transformation. Her work blurs the boundaries between body and plant, beauty and violence, memory and mutation; forming what she calls orchid monsters: plant-human hybrids that resist objectification and fixed identity.

Simultaneously controlled and chaotic, her compositions use symmetry, repetition, and deeply personal color palettes to create tension between restraint and turbulence. The result is work that feels both intimate and autonomous, rooted in lived experience.

See Isabel’s work in person at our upcoming show on January 31st!
