✨Opening Up to Voice✨
Okay Beauties, I have to say that I haven’t felt as vulnerable for quite a while about sharing an Artwork, as I am with this piece.
The reason?
The WORDS.
Learning to speak my truth has been a lifelong journey for me.
The freedom and playfulness of making Art has always come naturally to me. And so has writing if I’m honest.
But actually SHARING words?! Words feel big to me. Bold. There’s a sense of claiming myself and speaking out about who I am and what I believe. It’s more literal and less abstract to hide behind.
In this painting, I’ve written and painted over the words two and three times over in parts.
And an Artist friend of mine messaged to remind me that my words need to be heard, shown, seen.
And it’s because I’m scared to say them. My mind tells me “Who are you to give advice or guidance like this? Why would people listen? What if they see through me and know I’m a quivering mess half the time, trying to find and forge my own path?”
Which is exactly why I know I need to share this piece here with you today.
I don’t know if I like it. I do know I’m uncomfortable. Which, in retrospect, I know is a good thing, as it indicates a big leap or turning point in my creative work.
Who am I to share words and give advice?
I’m me. This is my life. I am unique and I come with experience and stories and triumphs and challenges and vulnerability to share.
And honesty, the words are as much for you as they are for me. To remind me to speak, even when I feel unworthy of doing so. To share from my heart, knowing that that alone is enough of a reason to do so.
As I child I would write and illustrate my own books and put them in the classroom library for my classmates to ‘borrow’. So perhaps this is me circling back to my roots.
Teaming words with images.
Speaking out loud. Claiming my ability to inspire. Coming out of the shadows.
This Artwork comes at a time when I’ve picked up my writing practice too, and have committed to writing for a minimum of 5 minutes a day. And I have to say, I feel like the channel from my heart outwards, feels clearer.
And I’ll continue to fake it til I make it ... because we all have a story to share 💗
