Step inside the sound

On Monday, October 5, Black Is Beautiful Experience takes over Audium SF for a 1 night only, 37-minute spatial listening experience.

The original recordings are being presented spatially throughout Audium’s 175-speaker room, allowing musical elements to appear from different directions and move through the space.

Centered around Beauty in Bloom, composed by Brandee Younger for Black Is Beautiful Experience, the experience also weaves in archival audio, voices and storytelling.

As @nexussfbay comes to a close, we’re carrying the energy of the week forward with a post-Nexus gathering, with Kwame Brathwaite Jr. joining us for the evening.

Listening sessions: 7:20 PM + 8:35 PM.

Before and after, we’ll gather next door at The City Eats @ 1608 with Caribbean-inspired dishes by Chef Beve Julien.

Limited capacity.

This Sunday, October 4, we close out Nexus at SFMOMA with the screening of Black Is Beautiful: The Kwame Brathwaite Story and a conversation around my father’s work and legacy.

Then on Monday, October 5, we continue the gathering with a post-Nexus Black Is Beautiful Experience listening session at Audium SF.

We’ll be presenting a 37-minute spatial listening experience at 7:20 PM and 8:35 PM inside Audium’s 175-speaker room, centered around Beauty in Bloom, composed by Brandee Younger for Black Is Beautiful Experience, with archival audio, voices and storytelling woven throughout.
Before and after the listening sessions, we’ll gather next door at The City Eats @ 1608 with Chef Beve Julien.

Together, the two neighboring spaces offer a preview of what a broader collaboration around music, food, culture and community could become in Lower Pacific Heights.

If you’re in town for Nexus, join us for one more evening around the music, the archive and community.

When we started @bayfitco , community was always the foundation. Events like Night Shift rooted in bringing people together is a living proof of just that.
A full house, a great workout, and a room full of people who showed up for themselves and for each other is a blessing .

We are extremely grateful for @getbenttraining for giving us the ability to come together in your amazing facility for the night, our vendors for contributing their products and energy, and every attendee who made the trip and showed up I personally want to thank each and everyone of you.

Truly this is only the beginning. Stay tuned for what’s next. ❤️💪🏾🔥

EarthSeed Farm is a Black-led, women-led farm in Northern California rooted in the wisdom of the Afro-Indigenous diaspora and a commitment to land-based healing and education.
This past May, we traveled from Montréal to Sebastopol to join them in bringing a new vision to life: the Afro Art House — a tiny home reimagined as a space for artists, elders, and guests to rest, create, and connect.
From furnishing the home with intentional, handcrafted pieces to sharing a meal in community, it was a journey grounded in purpose, creativity, and care.
