For one day only on March 15, while Austin celebrated SXSW, Highlander took over The Future Front House with all-day sessions, exploring the intersections of storytelling, movement-building and the artistic, cultural and creative impact of southern people’s struggles for justice and democracy.  From an experiential pop-up library (straight from Highlander’s archives in Tennessee) to an evening film screening and panel discussion, we hosted conversations among artists, organizers and friends that invited us all to imagine the future.

This was our first Lyceum style space, and we couldn’t have imagined how beautifully it would go. Video soon come.

Big thank you to @futurefronttexas for hosting us, our epic Rad Hos team for creating delicious food to nourish us, @_seedsoffire_ for leading the storytelling workshop, @gildapapoose for teaching us how to play “What is the Recipe for Culture?”, @edenhakimzadeh and @theblackestlayers for holding space after the film screening, and everyone who pulled up, tuned out the noise, and dropped into our experiment 🧪. @_ife captured the space, we are grateful to his eye. If this experience taught me anything it’s that it’s all possible, the future is ours. OURS.

Happy Juneteenth! On this special day recognizing the Black community, we’re looking back to the @Dinner1865 event created and premiered on this day one year ago. The mission was to recognize Blacks in culinary. This time around we’re moving the celebratory dining experience to October, but the spirit of what it marks still holds significance on this date. So cheers to all who made our 1st event a success and a big cheers to Black Excellence overall. No matter how you mark the day, let’s not forget how this country we know was made possible on the backs of Blacks. We remember where we came from and more importantly we look forward to what’s ahead. ✊🏾

As I reflect on Black History Month, as an entrepreneur I am so grateful to represent, work with and to have fellow friend business owners that are such great examples of visionaries exuding #BlackExcellence everyday. From those that make it a priority to lift our black neighborhoods, to those that bolster black wealth and black health and to those who are allies that prioritize amplifying black voices, I don’t take it lightly that I’m blessed with a network of those doing the hard work to make history today. -
Well done to those who lead the path before us. Thank you to those who are doing it now. And I look forward to seeeing what’s next. #beyondthe28
