Before turmeric became a wellness trend, it was already coloring food, fabric, and tradition. ✨
That golden spice in your cabinet has a story worth noticing. Today, we’re honoring International Turmeric Day.

🌿 NOURISH | Get to know the plant
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) belongs to the ginger family. The spice comes from its rhizome. Curcumin, one of its naturally occurring compounds, contributes its distinctive yellow color (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health [NCCIH], 2025). (nccih.nih.gov⁠)

🌿 SUPPORT | Look beyond the headlines
A 2025 review of 17 clinical trials found that turmeric preparations reduced knee osteoarthritis pain compared with placebo (Wai et al., 2025). (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov⁠)

Here’s an important distinction: these studies tested specific turmeric preparations. They don’t establish that a sprinkle in your dinner produces the same effects. Concentrated supplements also carry different risks; liver injury has been reported with some enhanced-absorption products (NCCIH, 2025). (nccih.nih.gov⁠)

🌿 CREATE | Notice the color and culture
In India, turmeric has been used for at least 2,500 years. Beyond cooking, its golden pigment has colored textiles and paints, and the plant has a long history in beauty rituals and cultural celebrations (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, n.d.). (kew.org⁠) 🇮🇳

A heartfelt thank you to Jamie, Rae, and Kim. Three incredibly talented local artists who shared their gifts with the Wild Ginger booth. Breakfast after a colonoscopy? No better place than @johnnydswaffles 🍳🧇☕️ @chefjamiedaskalis does it best.

After not eating for two days, I was more than ready for a real meal. 😂 I had the Huevos Rancheros with a side of home fries, and it was the perfect choice. 🌶️🍳🥔

Mike had the chicken fried steak with the famous Red Velvet Waffle. 🥩🧇

Everything was perfect, as always! Definitely the breakfast I needed after two days without food. 😋

In my opinion, it's the best place in Myrtle Beach for breakfast or lunch. They really have something for everyone, whether you're craving a classic breakfast, something sweet, or a delicious lunch. 💙
