Yesterday was a day of culture, community, connection, and calm—fleauxing on the currents of the Mississippi River. Grateful to see some of my @thenolalolas sisters, culture-bearer family, vendor family, childhood friends, and to meet new friends through breath. Thank you, @nolariverfest and @nolajazzmuseum , for having me. Thank you to my beautiful sister @motorcitykitty504 for bragging on me and getting me through the door! @laceyzanae Poo, thank you for rolling with me, you were a great help, and see the footage worked! 🤣🥰 And most of all, thank YOU to the GREATER that’s in me, around me, and goes before me WHO is BIGGER than anything!! 🙌🏾 Breathe. Fleaux. Be Eas’e. 😘💨💛✨🌿

Food mission to visit Netflix New Orleans streetfood @cheflindagreen There’s something special about traveling for food, but it’s never really just about the food. Years ago, Netflix featured our little family poke shop on the Hawaii episode of Street Food. It changed our lives. Even today, people still visit us because they saw that episode. This time, we got to be the travelers. We made the drive to visit the legendary Yakamein Lady from the New Orleans episode because we wanted to experience a dish that truly belongs to this city. Miss Linda Green had a doctor’s appointment today, so we didn’t get to meet her, but we had the honor of meeting her grandson, Don, who’s carrying the family legacy forward. After more than 60 days away from Hawaii, that first bowl hit different. To me, it tasted like a deeper, beefier saimin with rich, clean flavors that somehow felt both brand new and familiar at the same time. We tried the beef, shrimp, and crawfish… then went right back and bought more. Moments like this remind us why we love traveling. It’s not always the famous streets or the biggest attractions. Sometimes the best memories come from leaving the tourist spots, following a story, and meeting the families keeping their traditions alive. Family businesses understand each other in a way that’s hard to explain. Behind every recipe is sacrifice, long days, and generations of love. We’ll definitely be back to meet Miss Linda. Until then, thank you, Don, for welcoming our ohana and sharing a piece of New Orleans with us. Travel for the food… but stay for the people. That’s the part you’ll remember forever.

🥣THE WOMAN WHO SAVED YAKAMEIN🥣 When people think of New Orleans food, they usually picture gumbo, jambalaya, po’boys, or beignets. But locals know another legendary dish—yakamein. For decades, Chef Linda Green, better known as “The Yakamein Lady,” has dedicated her life to preserving this beloved New Orleans tradition. She learned the recipe from her great-grandmother and mother, whose family sold yakamein at Bean Brothers Corner, and today five generations have helped carry that legacy forward. Known as “Old Sober,” yakamein has long been the city’s favorite cure after Mardi Gras, second lines, and late nights. But Ms. Linda served more than soup—she preserved a piece of Black New Orleans history. Her story has been featured on Netflix’s Street Food: USA and by Anthony Bourdain, Food Network, TODAY, and other national and international media. She’s also cooked for celebrities including Jon Bon Jovi, Willie Nelson, Nas, and Snoop Dogg. Want to try her yakamein? Ms. Linda announces her pop-ups and festival appearances on Facebook (Ms. Linda Green) and Instagram @cheflindagreen. Now baaaby, if you’ve never had Ms. Linda’s Yakamein, then you’ve never truly lived. 😌 One bowl isn’t just a meal—it’s New Orleans history. ❤️ Follow Tour With Nate – New Orleans for more History, Culture, & Stories.
