Food is a climate policy on our plates- what we grow, cook, serve and eat shapes the health of people and the planet. Thank you @foodtank for putting food front and center last week and @pilotlightchefs for including @wellnessintheschools in the important discussions. Wonderful celebrating the life and work of the pioneering @marionnestle who has relentlessly asked the hard questions for many years. Wonderful to see so many OG chefs out to celebrate. And yes, we commute via foot and bike on @climateweeknyc (and always). #feedkidsrealfood.

School is back in session, New Jersey!

Our Director of National Programs, Marion Williams, joined the Coalition for Healthy Food in Newark Schools and FoodCorps members for Back to School Night at greatoakslegacy High School. Families had the chance to learn more about our programs, the ways we're partnering with coalition members to create more nutritious school meals statewide, and spun the wheel to answer questions about health and wellness.

Thanks for having us Great Oaks!

#TeamWITS is made up of all of our favorite people! 🥰

We kicked off the new school year with two days of training at @brooklynbasketball, good food (courtesy of @billtelepan), inspiring keynote speeches from Alessandro Palumbo and @jennawolfe, and a commitment to YES.

Our team doesn’t wait around, instead we go to the yes, finding communities and partners who are just as passionate as we are about shaping the health and wellness of our children. Here’s to another amazing school year ensuring access to nutritious school meals and active play for students—and to a WITS year of saying “Yes we can!”

The Dream Team traveled to Chicago to lead a CookCamp at The Academy for Global Citizenship, a very special school that prioritizes health and wellness, and has a robust scratch cooking, plant forward culinary program for their 600 students.

We had the joy of teaching them to bake breads, everything from bagels and Pullman loaves to English muffins and pizza crusts. Yes, homemade bread for school breakfast and lunch!

Thank you for inviting us in, @globalchicago and for this opportunity to learn together. We sharpened our knives, our skills as we learned to bake together.

Special thanks to @rachaelray for making this connection possible.

This week, we have our team from Arkansas and Tennessee here! Wellness in the Schools is proud to advise the CHEF Challenge in AR & TN as we execute our programming in 20 schools across the two states.

The C.H.E.F. Challenge—Children’s Health through Education and Food—is a USDA-funded Farm to School pilot program with a mission to cultivate healthy habits early, feed kids food that grows close to home, and spark lifelong connections between nutrition, learning, and well-being. We are reimagining what school meals and food education can be.

Welcome Chef Ambassadors Cale and April, and Karen and Dan from @healthyflavorsar @healthyflavorstn! 💚🌱

The New Jersey Office of the Food Security Advocate, together with its philanthropic Partners from Novo Nordisk Inc and The Campbells Foundation gathered together with school district representatives, community-based organizations, superintendent's, principals, school district food and nutrition service directors, school business officials and other Partners for today's "Bite the Power" in person gathering.

Todays enlightening session was designed to empower schools to ensure that more of our kids are accessing nourishing food and to attract more students to partake in school meals. We were excited to be part of the gathering with phenomenal conversations engaging Junior Students from the @westside.highschool to gain their perspective of school meals and how we can improve local access to fresh foods to nourish our school community. A special thank you to @nwk_schoolfoodcoalition Chesha Hodge, @foodcorps , Hayley Klein @foodcorps_nj, @njdaofficial @commonmkt @hungerfreenj @novonordisk @wellnessintheschools @chefmariwell @ricardokairios_fchs @fchs.rutgers
