The Anti-ICE Supper Club is an American idea—but the problem it’s trying to address is a global one. In too many countries, migrants are the lowest-paid, least-protected, most-villainized, hardest-working layer of society. So it was an honor to be invited to speak about our pro-immigrant fundraisers in Malta, a small European archipelago nation where they manage to handle tensions around their foreign-born workforce without kidnapping day laborers or shipping preschool teachers to dismal prison camps. The talk was part of @foodontheedge, a powerhouse two-day symposium with Irish roots and global ambitions. I’ve got another 24 hours of conversations and maybe some Maltese wine here, and then back to the U.S. because we are bringing our joy-driven fundraising roadshow to a city that knows a good time: New Orleans. Four consecutive nights from Oct 26-29, and I’ll be there for the first two evenings. All proceeds are going to Louisiana’s Immigration Services and Legal Advocacy @islaimmigration October 26 it’s aperitivos at @patronsaintwine, @lesliepariseau’s Lower Garden District wine bar, along with California wines, bar snacks, and tarot readings. October 27 a family-style dinner at @evviva.nola, tha Marigny favorite from Rebecca Wilcomb and Marcus Jacobs. October 28 @chefnininguyen welcomes a small table—just 16 guests—to the Đặc Biệt Supper Club @dacbietsupperclub October 29 a backyard party at @bacchanalwine, a Bywater institution, with live music, wine, grilled meats and vegetables over open fire.
