Last month I spent four perfect days at Alila Napa Valley. I enjoyed exceptional food from Chef Mark Shoemaker and learned there is so much to do beyond wine in Napa (but the wine is pretty great, too). From falconry to scent making, a stay at Alila is filled with unexpected wonders. And it doesn’t hurt to get there stress-free on a JSX semi-private charter.

There’s a way the sun hits in certain parts of Napa Valley. I’ve been here two dozen times or more, and still don’t know how to describe the feeling of seeing the sunlight hit the vineyards and the trees, how the dappled light makes its way into everything. There’s a Japanese word for something akin to it — Komorebi — a word that describes these scattered beams through the green of trees.

My time at @alila.napavalley was filled with bright, inventive food (some of the best I’ve had in a long time), and crisp notes in sauvignon and Schramsberg bubbles, and watching a hawk take to the sky. It was filled with forest bathing and sound baths and fragrance that lit up a part of my brain into remembering something from home, something that made me feel comforted.

You leave feeling a bit lighter with all that light; with all that brightness. Like it settles inside you, too. Thanks for having me Alila + @flyjsx ✨✨✨
