The Oregon Coast will be cool, but have you ever kissed a #puggle? The worst part about leaving for a trip is leaving this chicken nugget behind. Be a good boy, Boozer!! 🐶❤️

[ #asawoman ] What’s your story?
A few years back, I was told by my male boss that as a woman, I should aim to marry an ophthalmologist if I “actually wanted to be a successful optometrist”. He could tell by my immediate reaction that I was shocked, but continued to explain his “well thought out” logistics anyway. I one day plan to remind him of his statement as he sits in my exam lane. ———————————————————
Quite often when I mention that I’m in optometry school, I’m met with the following response: “Oh! What a nice and clean job for a woman, which also leaves a lot of time to raise kids in the future”. Sorry (not sorry), but I haven’t been working towards this goal my entire adult life thus far for the sake of my assigned gender role as a caretaker. Stay at home mothers are AMAZING SUPER(S)HEROES, but that wasn’t in the plan when planning my professional trajectory. 1. This would never be said to a male colleague 2. I didn’t realize my degree would read Dr. Kochkarian, OD/professional mommy 🙈

Many women in healthcare and non-health related professions face this sexist mentality on a daily basis. You’re expected to behave/dress/speak/react in specific ways as to not seem bossy/too forward/too “seductive”/ etc etc. But we’ve “somehow” triumphed and made great strides in our respective professions and will continue to do so. As women, it’s important to uplift and motivate one another to be the best versions of ourselves in a society that constantly asks us to prove our self worth. 2019 is the #yearofthewoman and it’s about time!

Can’t believe it has been another year! Where did the time go??? Feels like this year just began for me. I’m looking forward to 2019 with my #ResolutionsForLife. Thank you to @shellssss for tagging me to join in on this. ⏰ My one and only resolution is to “make more time” for the things that I feel I never have time for. With work and life in the way, simple things seem to pass right by us. ********************************************
📖 Make more time to read. Currently trying to finish the Alchemist. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Make more time to sit down and relax for more than 5 minutes. Yes I don’t know how to do that... 👁 Make more time to read up on new advances in optometry and ophthalmology. 🌊 Make more time to enjoy the outdoors - hike, bike, beach, soak up that Cali sun. 🌎 Make time to travel somewhere new. 🧘🏻‍♀️ Make more time for Yoga. 👨‍👩‍👧 Make more time for family memories. ********************************************
Cheers to 2019! 🥂 @ariele_photography
