Hen Hoose launches Scotland’s first Music Industry Safety Certification Scheme.

We’re incredibly proud to announce a new Creative Scotland-funded pilot bringing together venues, festivals, promoters, studios and music organisations in a nationwide drive to create safer working and live music environments for women and non-binary people.

Developed following consultation with the Hen Hoose community and organisations across Scotland, the scheme will provide free training covering bystander intervention; Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility; and safety and wellbeing.

Participating organisations will commit to having a clearly identifiable and accessible trained safety contact, giving artists, workers and audiences a clear person to approach if they experience or witness an issue. Once trained, organisations will also appear in a searchable public directory.

We’re delighted to begin the pilot with Aberdeen Performing Arts, Berkeley 2, BIT Collective, Celtic Connections, Chem 19, FLAPS, 432 Presents, Freakender, Hidden Door, Lost Map Records, Mono, Music Broth, Pop Mutations, Queen’s Hall, Stereo, The Glad Cafe, The Old Hairdressers, Tolbooth and Unique Assembly.

And this is just the beginning.
We’re inviting further organisations across Scotland’s music industry to express an interest in taking part.

As Hen Hoose founder Tamara Schlesinger says:

“Being safe at work or at a gig is a right, not a privilege. This change is long overdue.”
