POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

5 days to the premiere of new series of SHÌSHĒNG 势声: AS UNSPOKEN SOUNDS 不言之声 at @goldsmithscca Register for a free entry, link in the bio.

Zhuyang Liu — Guzheng, objects and live direction
Lil Soap @soap_dynastea — percussions
Paul Cheneour @cheneour — flute
Chengbin Liu @chengbin_liu — Voice, live score writing operator

Over the course of the performance, a score is continuously read, spoken, translated, drawn, rewritten and performed. Sounds emerge from guzheng, flute, percussion and strange everyday objects. At other moments, symbols and drawings appear live, a hexagram is generated through the casting of coins, or an audience response becomes an action on a string. The performance moves between music, poetry, theatre, live art and collective reading, while remaining part of one continuous score.

CREDITS
「Guà聲卦」Sound of Hexagram was originally developed by Laosanyang 老三样 @laosanyang_official (collective by Zhuyang Liu, Lil Soap and Bianco Li) in 2024. The original two score pages were written by Bianco Li @bi1anco and the work is further rewritten and developed by Zhuyang Liu for this performance.

NOEMA brings together five artists from different disciplines to create a live improvised audiovisual experience where sound and image emerge in real time. The ensemble features André Verissimo (gongs, shruti box, monochord, singing bowls and percussion), Paul Cheneour (flutes), Matt Dear (electronics and guitar), Scott Wyllie (electronics and double bass), and Sophie Wyllie (audio-reactive visuals). Drawing upon their individual practices and influences, the artists meet in a shared space of listening, exploration and spontaneous creation.

The artists respond moment by moment to one another, allowing each performance to evolve organically. Layers of acoustic and electronic sound intertwine with evolving visual landscapes, creating an immersive experience.

The work of NOEMA explores the relationship between perception and experience. Through the interplay of stillness, rhythm, texture and movement, the artists create an environment that invites attention and curiosity. As sound and image continuously influence one another, individual moments emerge, dissolve and transform, revealing a living artwork that exists only in the present moment.
