Animation Principles Module builds on Design Principles where students put their three projects into motion with emotion.
Students got to grips with core principles in theory and practice via After Effects and Cinema 4D. As well as looking beyond @jrcanest Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, to contemporary choreography and live action reference.
This was all from Semester One, Year One. We built a strong base of fundamentals before all other projects stack on top.
Real skills, real curriculum, structured around real conversations with a wide range of Motion studios and freelancers.

Let’s catch you up! It’s been a while and we’ve been running our new modules, all aligning with industry. True curriculum, real skills, benchmarked to a wide range of Motion studios and freelancers.
Here is a snapshot of our Design Principles for Motion module from fresh year ones back in September 2025.
Students got to grips with design fundamentals necessary for motion through a range of aspect ratios and mediums - Mixed Media (Photoshop 16:9), 3D (C4D & Redshift 1:1) and Typography (Illustrator 9:16).
Aspects of theory and practice also included art direct, storyboarding, understanding emotive design language, as well as traditional mechanics of colour, hierarchy, composition structure and much more to form an intentional emotive response.

Thank you @chenmorganbiague for a little BTS of today’s shoot in the studio.
Part of year one’s Professional Life Practice module is to create a music video while learning physical video skills with @helmfilmsuk
Later on in the year, students learn to translate physical to digital as they progress with virtual camera work and merging digital and physical.
We can’t wait to see what they make!

Our year one students concluding their Design Principles for Motion module this week. Thank you @juwadmalik for coming in and adding value to students learning journey! We covered a lot, with many more opportunities to experiment, test, fail, reflect, repeat and improve in future modules! The module fused knowledge and practice together, with Mixed Media, 3D and Type projects, weaving design skills - composition, cinematography, colour theory, grids and guides and much more.
Next up - Animation Principles!
