POV: This is what changing lives looks like

There are moments that remind you just how powerful people can be when they choose compassion.

Yesterday was one of those moments.

More than 40 tattoo artists from all over South Florida came together, not for recognition, not for ourselves, but because somewhere in Venezuela there are families facing unimaginable loss.

Families who woke up without loved ones.

Parents trying to comfort children while carrying heartbreak of their own.

People wondering how they’ll rebuild after losing everything.

When tragedy strikes, it’s easy to feel helpless.

Yesterday was a reminder that even from hundreds of miles away, love can still reach people who need it most.

To @emiliobodymod @noxostudios and Jeff, thank you for bringing this vision to life and for reminding all of us what can happen when a community comes together with one purpose.

To Buen Día Hub, thank you for opening your doors and creating a place where kindness could take shape.

To every business and restaurant that donated food, @tizana_express_1 @kinghotdogmiami @braidicakes @habibimia @gochobistro1 @javirojaschef thank you for taking care of every artist and volunteer so they could continue giving throughout the day.

And to every single person who came out to get tattooed

Thank you for believing that something as personal as a tattoo could become something so much bigger than ourselves.

Together, we were able to raise just over $13,000. More importantly, we were able to send a message to the people of Venezuela:

You are not alone.

No amount of money can replace what has been lost.

But if our efforts can bring even a little relief, a little hope or remind one family that people they’ve never met are standing beside them, then every hour, every tattoo, and every act of kindness was worth it.

That’s what Marking Lives means to me.

Thank you, Miami, for showing that when love leads, a community can become family.
