wrapping up a month covering the Israel-Hamas War … one journalist rant about access before I head home for a bit:

If you’re wondering why more foreign journalists aren’t reporting from inside of Gaza — it’s not for lack of effort. We have to have permission to enter countries we’re not citizens of. We can’t go into Gaza without permission from border authorities: in this case that’s Israel or Egypt and Hamas.

Israel’s border crossing to Gaza has been closed since Oct 7.

Egypt only recently opened theirs to allow aid in and injured Palestinians/foreign nationals out.

NBC has a phenomenal team in Gaza risking their own safety and working around the clock to get us images from the ground, but foreign journalists should be allowed inside Gaza — not just on tightly controlled embeds with the IDF.

stepped out of frame because the images spoke for themselves… Thursday, 10:22p local time — lots of activity in Northern Gaza. A spokesperson for Israel Defense Forces says IDF forces have “completed the encirclement” of Gaza City.
